The Art From Cardboard By Chris Gilmour

Updated on July 4, 2010

Do you have cardboard in your home? I think you have cardboard packaging after bought something. Actually we can create the cardboard packaging become useful things and maybe become valuable things. We can see from other things which can be made as a recycled material. Something valuable not only from expensive material, but we can use something around us that maybe it useless. To remind again I have written about Can recycled, with the tittle "From Cans Become Valuable Things". I think many hubbers already knew about this hub. Unfortunately if we don't use them for something useful, right! But it depend us. Because it need a little touch of art. I think not all people can do that. At least we want to try to make this.

Let’s back to the cardboard. What kind of cardboard we can use to make a craft? a cardboard which the sides consist of three layers of paper. If the layer was opened, in the middle section which it has undulating surface. This section can be used as  greeting card. We can decorate this card more beautiful and make it more colorful. We can also use this section as a unique photo frame. Are you interest with this creation? You can make it at home. We can develop many ideas from used cardboard become many things.

I want to dig up many ideas from the cardboard. I think you will impress with this guy. He is really great artist and good sculptor. He can make cardboard become valuable thing. For me, personally very surprise with his work. Why I said so, I am art lovers. And I found something beautiful and unique from his creation. His name is Chris Gilmour, a very talented artist. He can created many valuable things from cardboard. He only used a cardboard, scissors and glue to change the cardboard from something useless become something expensive. I think we can learn from his dedications with art work.

I also put the pictures from his work. He works in many ranges of object. And he makes all the things from daily life into wonderful object. And he made it very detail, like a miniature. You can see many creation of Chris. Start from typewriter, bicycle, wheelchair, guitar, violin, Fiat 500 until Aston Martin DB8. Wow....cool. And most of them are my favorite. Deep in my heart I said......amazing and I can't blink my eyes even for a while. For Aston Martin DB8 we can see the detail of machine, it was given in the boxes for precision. For the bicycle we can see the detail of wheels, chains, tires, brakes and all looks real for me. I hope the same opinion with all of you.

He change from this.....

Become this... (please see the detail)

A little biography of "Chris Gilmour"

Chris Gilmour was born at Stockport, Great Britain, in 1973. But now he lives in Udine, Italy. The history of his education was South Trafford College, Manchester and BA, University of the West of England, Bristol. He also held some solo exhibition. Chris Gilmour's first solo exhibition in New York "Pussy Galore", October 19 to November 22, 2006. WIth Freight + Volume as the theme of this exhibition.

He played his imagination into fiction and reality. His work made the audience saw more the detail of his work. Actually his first creations made from very clean cardboard but now he used variety of cardboard. Like cardboard boxes which we usually found this item on the street. But the unique of these boxes are it show all the printing, label and tape. Why he choose these material, because it so easy to find. His work influenced by many great sculptors and they all become his inspiration. Such as: Andy Goldsworthy, Tom Friedman, Bill Woodrow and Anish Kapoor. He got many ideas from those artists. Now, he is become success person who change useless things become valuable things.

I think everyday million people consume drink from cans. And most of us throw aways those cans. There is a problem when this cans can not reused. Beside it reuse as an aluminum base in the factory. There is a green solution. We can use recycle. Recycle means recycling. Cans waste can be made crafts. Cans waste often end up in dustbin, if we can managed creatively, cans can be a valuable art work. We just need creativity to made crafts from tin can.

This guy has an amazing talent to be so creative with ordinary materials like cardboard and glue. These are truly works of art.
