A Ghost Story: Is Shinn Park in Fremont, Ca. Haunted?

Updated on May 19, 2013

A Haunted Park?

Shinn Park in Fremont California is one of my favorite local parks to visit - and I am not the only person that likes to visit Shinn: there may also be otherworldly "people" or spirits that like to visit there too.

Namely ghosts.

Now before we get into a debate about whether or not ghosts even exist, let me explain what happened to me one day 6 years ago on one of my "visits" to Shinn Park.

A ghost on my video recorder?

The day that I captured what I think was a "ghost" on a video camera was the first time I had ever recorded something "weird" like this on video. And I might note also that I have never captured anything like this since that day.

And to put the record straight - I am NOT a ghost hunter. In fact I'm not even entirely sure I even believe in them. After capturing this however, it did given me pause to think. It also gave someone else pause to think too - my video caught the attention of the owner of the popular website Angels and Ghosts. Angels and Ghosts even featured my video of Shinn Park in October of 2006 on their website (just in time for Halloween they said)

Here is an account of that day:

It was a beautiful day at Shinn Park in Fremont, California, a place that I frequent with my friends and family often. It was about 75 degrees and there was no wind, clouds or even a breeze on the day when I caught what may have been a "ghost" on my camera video recorder. I was sitting on the grass that day. We had our dogs with us and I was taking video of them. I was waiting for my border collie to come running around the house but he jetted the other way so I turned my camera off. When I later viewed the video I saw a strange and ghostly image that looked like a silhouette on video. No one was smoking nor was anyone by me when I took this. I kept it because it was so unusual. Later on my son said the house was haunted and they thought I may have captured a ghost on video. I have never saw anything strange since that day but my sister-in-law frequently takes photos there that appear to have "orbs" in them. Very strange! Also, I had taken other videos right before and after this one and there was nothing "strange" like this on any of them. I do also remember feeling weird and kind of sick at the park that day and we left soon after that.

Maybe so, Dorsi, but by letting the world know about your "secret" spot you've expanded the opportunities for more sightings by others. Thanks! ;D

@Simone) Hi!! Well, let's just say I sort of let the "ghost" out of the box on this one. Some people that tend the gardens there refuse to believe there are ghosts there - but I thought it was time to "officially" let the world know about this. By doing this though I am afraid my secret spot will not be so "secret" anymore. Sigh....

Yep, you just experienced pretty much what happened to me that day in the cemetery. Reliable camera suddenly malfunctions for no logical reason, and only just the once. I should add my experience was with a 35mm camera, back before digital, so I had no idea what or what didn't get captured on film until the film was developed. A daughter who doesn't believe in ghosts swore I must've been waving the camera from side to side as I snapped the pic. Right... There's a much longer backstory about the Dearly Departed trying to keep me from photographing his grave that day, but I'm saving it for a hub.

@Jama) Wow, that is weird. It just confirms what happened to me the other day at Shinn Park (I go there often) I was taking a panoramic view of the park on my video camera and all of a sudden the camera froze and would not turn off (that has never happened before) Then it said "memory empty" (also never happened before) I had to take the batteries out to turn if off. When I turned it back on magically all the videos came back except for the last one...eeee....

My neice told me after that that ghosts will disrupt their filming if they don't want you to capture something....

I have NO idea what that was on the video, but don't believe it was smoke or ground haze or any of the other "explanations" non-believers use. I've never caught the image of a spirit on film or video but had one weird experience where my camera refused to work if it was pointed at a certain grave, but worked just fine any time I pointed it in any other direction. In fact, one photo looks as if a ghostly hand gave the camera a shove just as the shutter opened. This camera had never malfunctioned before and never did again. Who knows how thin the veil between worlds really is? ;D
