The Natural Artist Dmitri Danish

Updated on December 11, 2012

Dmitri Danish was a child prodigy in art.

The artist Dmitri Danish was born in 1966 in the Ukraine. His artistic talent became evident very early in life when he would draw with a pencil before he could walk or communicate. His mother recognized his talent and instead of using merely words and gestures to communicate, also used art, color and shapes. At five years old she started teaching him how to paint. His passion was painting still lives, landscapes and cityscapes. He attended a gifted school in the Ukraine at age 13 and at age 15, the young artist Dmitri Danish began attending the Kharkiv State Art College. In order to make ends meet in college, he painted and designed sets and served as a creative director of an ad agency. After graduation he became an art teacher, but did not enjoy this profession. He joined the army and after the army joined the Fine Art Department at Kharkiv States Polytechnic. Being faculty in this institution allowed the artist Dimitri Danish to pursue his dream of painting for a living.

Land, sky, city and sea.

Dmitri Danish became especially enamored of cityscapes and fell in love with his hometown of Kharkiv. He loved to paint visions of cities he read about in books, in stories, on stamps, cities he heard about on the radio or heard in conversation…any aspect of a city he enjoyed imagining and bringing to life on canvas. He started dreaming about cities only in his imagination and painting scenes from these imaginary cities. He creates new geographical areas in the world: countries, cities, etc. and makes them real with his art. Dmitri Danish’s style ranges from a type of surreal impressionism to a stark realism and all points in between. Often he will combine styles, bringing out a particular subject in his painting.

Kharkiv: Not just a quaint city, but also an art model.

In addition to his realistic, but imaginary landscapes and cityscapes, the Dmitri Danish started painting all aspects of his native city Kharkiv. He painted various streets, buildings, cafes, scenes and landscapes, making Kharkiv a very inviting and accessible city to anyone viewing his artwork.

Dmitri Danish goes cosmopolitan

The artist Dmitri Danish showed his early work in the Ukraine as well as in Russia and other countries in Eastern Europe on a regular basis. He is a well-received and well-known artist in his home country and around the world. The Kharkiv State Museum of Fine Art owns three of his works and has them on permanent display. The New Jersey Museum of Modern Art also owns three of his paintings and has them on permanent display. He now shows his work all over the world including many Western European countries and both the East and West coasts of the U.S. The Ukraine government presented one of Dmitri Danish’s paintings to the United States ambassador to Ukraine in 2003 as a going away gift of appreciation. Dmitri Danish is truly a natural born artist.

His paintings really capture the feeling of the time element because his imagery is impressionistic yet realistic almost like a picture. When these two blend there is a jump in thought to cut more precise lines as he is approaching reality.

      Nice work Dmitiri,
