The Relaxing nature of Adult coloring books.

Updated on January 17, 2016

Almost meditative.

Coloring and drawing always relaxed me but it also took thought. I was surprised to find how creative I could be with these coloring books. I felt like I was embarking on a short journey. It took my mind off of everything that was going on. I could just sit down and think about coloring, and what color to use next. It's like meditating.

Uses your brain.

Most people have heard the right brain left brain spiel. But that has been debunked. There are sections of your brain though, and different activities will use different parts of your brain. For instance the Cerebrum is the part of your brain that stores memories and helps you solve puzzles but is also the part that allows you to process and create art. The Cerebellum helps with movement, and fine motor control. Both parts of the brain have high activity during coloring and other artistic endeavors, such as writing. So without realizing your using a large portion of your brain just by sitting down and coloring.

Join the hype.

One doesn't have to sit down long to gain the rewards from coloring. It truly does take your mind off of things. Most books aren't too expensive and most allow you to use all types of art supplies. Colored pencil, crayons, paints, and gel pens. Explore wherever your mind takes you. It's fun and relaxing. Come enjoy.
