The Statue Of Liberty Has Historic Context!
Lady Liberty has been standing in New York Harbor since 1886! She welcomes International visitors with her torch held high for all to see! The sculpture is an artistic & architectural Masterpiece given to us by France! She towers above the Harbor, her visage watching All who come to the United States to taste Freedom!
The original work known as "Liberty Enlightening The World" by French sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi is made entirely of copper. The interior structure was fashioned by Gustave Eiffel who also created his namesake work, The Eiffel Tower in Paris in 1889. Effiel created the internal structure on which the external sculpture was placed. You can go all the way up to her crown where there is an Observation Deck. Access to the Torch Balcony is forbidden!
The Statue was financed by Édouard René de Laboulaye a French Professor, Jurist & Politician. It was also financed by Joseph Pulitzer, A Democratic Representative in the US Congress & Owner of "The New York World". Pulitzer Prizes are given out today commemorating him!

The Emma Lazarus Sonnet, "A New Colossus" is on a Bronze Plaque inside the pedestal of the Statue. Lazarus was commissioned to do the poem to help raise funds for the pedestal. The words welcome Immigrants to our Nation Of Immigrants to this very day

Is populated by Immigrants from around the World! And we still welcome people from all over the world today! Our land stands for Freedom, & we should never forget that!
