Nature and Photography
Photography for Beginners
They say, that you should never limit yourself when doing photography. I am not 100% sure I believe that because some of my best work is from doing nature photography-which is what I love! To photograph wildlife, flowers, insect, landscapes, etc.. there is something that touches my heart so strong, I almost get lost inside my camera lens. But when I do architect and/or taking photos of people.. my heart just is not into it! I am not the type to force myself to do things that I am not overly thrilled with, so I can honestly say my niche in photography is doing nature photography and my least favorite thing is photographing people!
I love doing macro photography of insects, rain drops and yes, morning dew drops. To me it is like photographing a completely different world. I believe I can honestly say this for all photographers, we can take hundreds of photos, and out of those hundreds of photos we may only keep a few. When I first heard this, I thought to myself, that is crazy, but guess what it is very true. My most recent experience was this, I took about 101 photos at a wildlife center and out of those photos I only kept 9 or 10 pictures. I believe each photographer has this set image in their mind for what they are trying to capture with their photography, and unless it is captured they are not satisfied.
Life is filled with Magic
Life is filled Magic
Have you ever been some place and seen something you would have loved to take a picture of? There are so many times that sometimes I feel I need to carry a camera with me all day, every where I go. So many times I have gone outside for some reason and seen a hummingbird or a butterfly that I know would have made a fantastic picture. I quietly try to run into the house (if there is such a thing) to grab my camera and by the time I get back outside the hummingbird or butterfly had left.
Do you remember when you were a child and you use to lay on the ground and watch the sky? Did you ever see different cloud formations that looked like animals, people or different landscape objects? One of my favorite things to do is watch the clouds. When my husband took the picture I call "Stairway to Heaven" that is exactly what I see, a set of stairs that looks like it reaching to Heaven.
I always say, "Life is filled magick, if we only allow our eyes to see it." You will be amazed when you upload some of your photos and see the beauty you have captured; especially in the tiny little things like an ant on a flower.
The next time you are outside and you have your camera with you, snap a few pictures of the clouds, you may be surprise what you will see! You can see some of my little nature beauties at: WhiteOak's Photography

Developing More Interest
Lately, I have become interested in taking photos of many different things. I still do not like taking photos of people just because that is personally not my cup of tea.
I have however developed this love for photographing older cabins and antique items like old fashion water wheels and antique farm equipment.
If I had more patience I would love to do more wildlife photography but I can only sit still for a short period of time. I have gotten a few shots of hummingbirds and a deer in the wild which I found to be really cool.
I believe photography as with art- it is best to open the field and learn everything you can. One day perhaps I will learn to enjoy photographing people and even have enough patience to sit for hours waiting for just the right wildlife photo. We just never know... What are your thoughts?
A Child's Gentleness
One of my favorite things
Recently, I have been taking my little 10 year niece out doing photography with me. I have a little Nikon Coolpix I let her use. I usually (for now) take her to the Botanical Gardens in Athens Georgia.
Not too long ago during one of our visits, I stopped on the bridge to photography this little butterfly. I wanted to see if I could get the butterfly to come onto my hand (picture below) and it did. My niece was so excited, I showed her how to get the butterfly on her hand. The butterfly loved being her so much it actually crawled up her hand (pictured above) and it stayed for the longest time.
I call this photo a Child's Gentleness because she was so gentle with the butterfly that it made it comfortable on her hand. THIS is one of the beautiful things about doing photography!!
