The plethora of colors is all around us. Often employed as a visual tool, colors may have some effect in the human eye and brain, whether physically, mentally or emotionally. Most businesses that are in the hotel and restaurant industry often use the red and yellow colors. The red may encourage good appetite while yellow hasten an individual’s metabolism. When opting for colors, it is of essence to discern a specific color’s meanings and associations.


Here is useful information about the different colors and what they represent:

Color: Red

Associated with: Fire, blood, sex and love.

Positive meanings: Passion, blood, energy, heat and power.

Negative meanings: Aggression, anger, battle ,cruelty and alarm.

Additional information about red: The color red is the most visually dominant color. It stimulate heart beat rate, breathing and appetite. Moreover, people in red colors may look heavier than their usual weight.

Color: Yellow

Associated with: sunshine

Positive meanings: Intelligence, wisdom, optimism, idealism and joy.

Negative meanings: Jealousy, cowardice and caution.

Additional information about yellow: Boosts metabolism, bright yellow can be associated with fatigue and pale yellow may encourage concentration. Yellow is a friendly color and it is best worn when traveling or having good time with your friends.

Color: Blue

Associated with: Sea and sky.

Positive meanings: Knowledge, tranquility, masculinity, justice and wit.

Negative meanings: Loneliness, detachment, coldness and boredom.

Additional information about blue: Boosts metabolism, bright yellow can be associated with fatigue, on the other hand, pale yellow may encourage concentration.

Color: Green

Associated with: Plants, natural environment, forest, trees

Positive meanings: Fertility, money, growth, healing and youth.

Negative meanings: Greed, envy and nausea.

Additional information about green: Too light on the eyes, the color green is aesthetic, soothing and revitalizing. The color green may aid digestion and minimize stomach aches.

Color: Purple

Associated with: Royalty and spirituality

Positive meanings: Luxury, wisdom, sophistication, wealth and nobility.

Negative meanings: Exaggeration, surplus and insanity.

Additional information about purple: The color violet is believed to stir creativity and imagination in an individual. Moreover, this color has womanly and romantic attributes. Since it is not a common this color may look like artificial.

Color: Orange

Associated with: Autumn and citrus

Positive meanings: Creativity, energy, uniqueness and effervescence.

Negative meanings: Crudeness, trendiness and loudness.

Additional information about orange: The color orange just like the red may stimulate one’s appetite. People inside an orange room may resort to thinking and talking. This color is used for visual enhancement.

Color: Black

Associated with: Night and death

Positive meanings: Power, authority, weight and sophistication.

Negative meanings: Fear, negativity, wickedness, privacy, confidentiality and grief.

Additional information about black: Black may make an individual look thinner. This color make other colors look brighter.

Color: White

Associated with: Light and purity.

Positive meanings: Perfection, cleanliness, softness and simplicity.

Negative meanings: Fragility and seclusion.

Additional information about white: White is so bright and sometimes may give some headaches to people.

Color: Gray

Associated with: Neutrality

Positive meanings: Balance, security, maturity and reliability.

Negative meanings: Lack of commitment, ambiguity, monotony, dullness, bad weather and loneliness.

Additional information about gray: The color gray may often stir up strong emotions.
