Make your own Valentines Day Card

Updated on February 10, 2010

Valentines Day is fast approaching - yes February 14th is the day of love! Just four more days. Did you remember to pick up a card for your loved one? Hallmark produces cards for every occasion and for just about everyone.. sister, aunt, cousin, ex-wife .. you name it - Hallmark has it. But why not do something different this year? Why not make your own Valentines Day card? Yes .. that's what I said - make your own - for much less!

Why make your own card? Well, this will give you the chance to be truly original and creative. Making your own card will show your loved one that you really tried to do something different and special this year. And the best part is - you can put whatever you like in the card. You can tailor it to your own needs, based on the person you are giving it to on Valentines Day.

What do I mean by make your own Valentines Day Card?

This valentines day you can make your own card to reflect both your likes as well as the person you plan on giving the card to on Valentines Day. For instance, if the person is a dog lover - you can but a picture of him/her and their dog on the card, if the person loves hiking - why not put a picture of beautiful romantic looking mountains... you getting what I am suggesting you can do by making your own card?

You can do this on your computer and with the help of the world wide web to make your Valentines Day card for free .. and extra special too! If you are new to digital scrapbooking don't worry. Some Tips

  1. To make your card extra personal, try using a photo of the both of you together.
  2. Most, if not all, photo editing programs such as Adobe Photoshop and Microsoft Picture It have the option, when choosing page layout/paper size, to choose that you are making a card. You will then get to choose from various options for card layouts such as two fold or four fold etc. If you are really new to digital scrapbooking and you are having problems, a simple layout can be a 'post card' using a normal 4x6 or 5x7 layout. Experiment with the program and you will figure it out.. that's how I learnt!
  3. When time to print your Valentines Day card, you can either print it at home based on how good your printer is or you can carry it to any photo shop or Walgreens that's near to you! You should buy a cardstock paper if you want it to print it on nice thick paper. This is not absolutely necessary .. I am sure your loved one with like it regardless... just because you made it. Also by printing it at home - its much cheaper.
  4. You can google phrases for the inside if you are having trouble coming up with something 'mushy' to put on the inside of the card. Use the internet - it's a great source!

Good luck and Happy Valentines Day, 2010!
