Thanks Bruce, appreciate the comment and vote. I saw Red Tails, interesting, the various dog fights were good, produced by George Lucas.

If the US or UK poster is a bit blah I'll post the foreign poster instead which is very often more colorful and striking. The thing we're missing from the foreign posters is all the hype they put on the English ones, "10 years in the making!", "Biggest film ever!" etc etc :)

      Thanks for posting.

A nice collection of World War 2 movie posters. I have seen almost all of these movies....and many were movies that my father watched and rewatched and talked about on a regular basis. The only one that he never really mentioned was The Dam Busters. I wonder how that one failed to reach his radar screen.

I always get a kick out of the foreign posters...in this hub the From Here To Eternity is the one that stands out as being the one the most different from the poster that I am used to too.

Talk about good timing...I am watching Red Tails as I read your hub....it takes place during the 1944 war. Voted up and interesting....nice addition....now on to your musical poster hub.

Thanks for commenting Rob those are some of my favourites too.

I'd also add Stalag 17, Hell and High Water, The Dam Busters and Battle of the River Plate.

Hi Steve; Some great movies here. While war films aren't really my favorite genre, there sre still several excellent films here. "Bridge on the River Kwai", "The Caine Mutiny", "Mr. Roberts", and "From Here to Eternity" are all amazing films.

      Nice work, as usual,

      Rob

David, Mhatter99, thank you for commenting, always appreciated.

David, Ice Cold in Alex is a popular war film here in the UK, it always gets shown on TV. It does have one of the oddest names for a war film. It refers to John Mills, stuck in the baking hot African desert with his group, and his thoughts of drinking an Ice Cold glass of lager when they reach Alex(andria).

Highest rated war film on here is Paths of Glory, followed by Bridge on the River Kwai and Stalag 17.

      Thank you both for posting.

I was surprised that there were so many I haven't seen (or at least remembered)... but "Ice Cold in Alex"??? I KNOW I've never even heard of that one. One of my favorites which does get much air play is "Paths of Glory" with Kirk Douglas. I didn't realize it was by Stanley Kubrick. I guess it's not seen much in the US because it's about A) World War I and B) the French. But it's message is universal. War takes on its own life and a lot of victims don't suffer at the hands of whoever the enemy is at the time. Another great hub.
