Choosing The Best GoPro Camera

Updated on July 19, 2015

GoPro has revolutionized the personal camera market in recent years, while continuing to make advancements yearly to their impressive lineup of cameras. As a owner of many GoPro products myself, I can tell you that nothing is more rewarding then capturing life's special moments with a product that you can rely on no matter where you are, or what you're doing. GoPro has you covered 100%.

With that said, the only frustrating part of purchasing a GoPro for the first time, is choosing which camera will best suite you. GoPro has a tons of products, accessories, and hardware that can be a little intimidating to someone just getting started.

In the long run, the GoPro that is best for the user all comes down to a few things"

  • How much are you willing to spend?
  • What will you primarily be using the camera for?
  • What weather conditions and environments you will using the GoPro in the most?

Budget

Obviously your budget is a no brainier when making any purchase, but the amount of money your willing to spend when purchasing your first GoPro is very important.

The HERO 4's are the newest, and most advance cameras GoPro has to offer currently. They are available either in Black or Silver Edition along with the newly released "Session", however they are also the most expensive. Prices fluctuate between $399-$499. GoPro wanted to release a camera for those of us just beginning, and the all new "HERO" can be yours for $130.

The GoPro HERO3 is available in three different editions Silver, White, and Black, with prices ranging from $199 - $399 with prices continuing to drop as newer cameras are released.

The HERO 2's are at the bottom of the lineup, and lack some pretty cool features. They are also discontinued at this point, but you still find them all over the internet.

I have outlined the retail values of each camera, but be sure to keep in mind how fat your wallet is, and with a decline in price, expect for an outdated product.

If you are interested in purchasing a GoPro, I have outlined a list of thee prices for each make and model:

  • HERO 4 Black- $499.00
  • HERO 4 Session- $399.00
  • HERO 4 Silver-$399.00
  • HERO- $129.00
  • HERO 3 White: -$199.00
  • HERO 3 Silver: -$249.00
