Winter Wardrobe - Crochet Tank Top # 1

Updated on February 3, 2013

Tank Top

My mother decided that she is going to move on from just crocheting scarfs to something more. This winter, she made me lots of tops. This inspired me to make some clothing too for myself.

Materials Required:

K/10 1/2 - 6.5 mm Boye Crochet Hook

Loops & Threads™ Impeccable™ Yarn - Solids 2 Colors - For this project I used Maroon and Green

Tapestry Needle

Double Crochet

Chain Stitch

As you know I never follow gauge cause I have still not understood the gauge.

Note: To give it a ribbing effect, all the double crochet are worked in back loop.

Skill Level: Easy

Tank Top Pattern

This pattern is worked length wise.

Foundation Row: Ch till the chain measures 18" (we need 20" length wise but as the wool stretches always take 2" less)

Row 1: Dc in the 3rd ch from the hook, Dc in each ch till the end and turn.

Row 2: Ch 2, Dc in the next Dc in the back loop only repeat till end and turn.

Repeat Row 2, till you can wrap it around you. Make it at least 2" smaller than your size because it will stretch.

Working in the back loop will give it a Ribbing effect.

You can make two different colors like the one I have made, or you can take both colors and work them together as shown in the video.

Straps: Make 2

Foundation Row: Ch 8

Row 1: Sc in the 2nd ch from the hook, Sc in each ch till end and turn

Row 2: Ch 1,Sc in the next ch and in each ch till the end and turn.

Repeat Row 2 till the strap measures 12". You can make it maximum of 14", but as I have said before, the wool stretches always make smaller than desired.

Fold the tube and sew it together. Measure 3" from each side and sew the straps. Finally with the tapestry needle, hide all the loose yarn. Easy Tank top is ready.

Please view the video from where I made my tank top.

Hi ComfortB, glad you liked it. I tried to make this top by watching the video too. I used to crochet only scarfs. This video really helped me a lot..!!

      Lovely! Very detailed tutorial.

I learned how to crochet by just watching it done. I just can't understand the terms/slangs of crochet experts. But I can appreciate a great work when I see one. This is one.

      Voted up and beautiful.
