Transform Dangly Earrings from Dull to Dazzling with Beads

Updated on June 15, 2013

Make boring earrings fun again.

I'm a big fan of dangly earrings but I'm forever breaking and losing them. They get caught in my hair or headband or helmet and tear. Or, they're just not the right colors for my outfits. And they can be so expensive!

I recently discovered beading and found out I can pull apart old dangly earrings and transform them into stylish new accessories in just minutes by adding a few beads. Learn how you can makeover your own bangles with a few simple beading techniques.

A few supplies you'll need

Beading supplies are very inexpensive, and beading is addicting, so you'll definitely find a use for your extra supplies. The findings come in a variety of colors and styles, so just click through to find silver, platinum, sterling, bronze, gold, copper, distressed, and other finishes.

Silvertone Ball Headpins - 2" with 1mm Ball
Silvertone Ball Headpins - 2" with 1mm Ball

Headpins are used to form the base of your shorter dangly earrings. You can buy them with a ball on one end, or a tiny ring already formed. The ones with a ball at the end act as a stopper. You can hang a charm off the ones with a ring on the end. If you buy solid pins, you can also cut off the tips and create your own rings, so it's really personal preference, once you get the hang of it, to decide which you should buy. These go fast too, so buy lots!

Crimp beads come in handy when you want to make a dangly earring too long for a headpin. They are tiny and you can use two or more per project, so four or more per pair of earrings. They're also easy to lose or flick off into space, so buy these in bulk.

Remember!

In order to dazzle, you need diamonds and pearls!
