Alice in Wonderland Paper Dolls: Through an All New Looking Glass Book

Alice in Wonderland makes a wonderful subject for paper dolls. There's Disney's beloved animation, which makes for perfect paper dolls for children or collectors of Disneyana, or the newer Tim Burton version for an edgier look. There's vintage Alice, classic Alice, and even steampunk Alice. Whether you are after the sweet little girl look or the edgier Alice, you'll find it all here.

Print or buy Alice in Wonderland paper dolls with outfits to dress up. Have a go at making some 3D paper models of the Caterpillar, Cheshire Cat or one of the Wonderland creatures. Create a tea party entirely out of paper. Make an Alice in Wonderland paper dollhouse!

When it comes to Alice paper dolls, you can be as kooky, whimsical, fantastical or insane as the stories and characters themselves!

"If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. Nothing would be what it is, because everything would be what it isn't. And contrary wise, what is, it wouldn't be. And what it wouldn't be, it would. You see?"

Fabulous Steampunk Style Alice in Wonderland Paper Dolls - Enter Wonderland Through an All New Looking Glass!

If you like the paper doll models I have used in the photos on this page, then you will love this book, because this is where they came from. Alice gets a steampunk makeover and boy, does it look good!

Plus, it's environmentally friendly, too, as the dolls are printed on recycled paper!

I can't stress enough how much I LOVE these paper dolls from Dover! Alice gets edgy with a seriously steampunk makeover (but without looking too dark). This modern interpretation of characters includes 16 dolls with original costumes and accessories, combining fantasy, sci-fi and Victorian-style fashions. Wonderful for paper doll makers of all ages.

Includes Alice with short and long dresses, the White Rabbit and March Hare, both with an array of outfits, a seriously cool Cheshire Cat, complete with fancy white gloves, the Red and White Queens (on roller skates no less!) and the Mad Hatter in some very funky trousers. Quite possibly the BEST collection of Alice in Wonderland paper dolls, ever!

How to Make Alice in Wonderland Paper Dolls

1. The most basic way to have fun making Alice paper dolls is to collect some cut-out paper doll sheets like those listed on this page. You can find free printables online, or buy books or printable sheets. Most come with an array of costumes, which you can cut out along with the dolls to dress them up. You can get creative putting them into scenes, adding backdrops using printed out Alice in Wonderland pictures and so on, or even construct a paper doll house or shoebox diorama.

2. If you are good at drawing, why not try making your own? Create Alice and friends in your own style and design them some costumes to wear, adding tabs so that you can fasten the clothes to the dolls. Or if you're a whizz on the computer, design them in a graphics program instead.

3. You can also make your own even if you're not arty enough to draw them yourself. You could print out suitable character pictures from the internet (providing they are for your own personal use) or cut out pictures from books or magazines. Alternatively, you could use Alice in Wonderland rubber stamps or acrylic stamps and colour/cut out the inked designs.

4. Whether you make your own or put together someone else's, you can make your Alice paper dolls truly unique by making them 3D and/or embellishing them. Add fabrics to dresses to make them stand up. Embellish with flowers, paper/card/foam/chipboard accents, stickers, diamante gems, ribbons and buttons. You could even add hair or sparkly crowns and tiaras.

"You're nothing but a pack of cards!"

The next project I want to try is some of these incredible 3D paper models! I especially love the caterpillar and the pencil bird from Creatures of Wonderland, the queen's messengers from Disney Family and the Queen of Hearts from Constructing Wonderland. I will post some photos when I have made some!

Check out these amazing folk art dolls at CartBeforeTheHorse.com. Okay, so these aren't, strictly speaking, paper dolls, but they are fabulous folk art dolls made by Dylan and Jo of Cart Before the Horse, made from various materials such as cloth, paperclay and wood. I have featured them here because firstly, there are some gorgeous and amazing Alice in Wonderland dolls showcased, and secondly, I think they are quite inspiring if, like me, you want to have a go at your own more complex, 3D paper doll creations. The siteincludes galleries as well as links to their dolls for sale on Etsy (which include printable Alice in Wonderland paper dolls), as well as their fabulous blogs. Jo's has some great free tutorials and printables, including an articulated paper doll.

Now, back to paper dolls! These wonderful photos below by ArtSparker on Flickr show just what fun you can have with even the plainest of black and white Alice paper dolls - simply marvel at this collection of Wonderland scenes!

So clever! My daughter loves paper everything. She has a paper garden that she grows with her paper watering can. She then harvests her paper veggies and taps the tops onto full grown vegetables.

These are amazing! I love all the variations on Alice in Wonderland. The Dover versions are so beautiful, but who could pass up the Disney version, as sweet as she is.

When I was little, I loved playing with paper dolls but you don't see them around so much these days; I had no idea that Alice paper dolls would be such a rich topic. Thank you for putting all this together.

Wow. Who would have thought there were so many just of Alice and Wonderland? Sometimes it fascinates me how many doll or paper doll editions some characters have gone through.
