It really depends on the event, but making sure that your subjects are comfortable and not stiff is an important part of getting great photos of people.
Think about perspective when you are taking photos - such as having the bride hold the groom between her fingers. Also remember that anything can make a great part in the photo, sunlight shining through the trees positioned specifically in a photo is dramatic.
Props that don't make a lot of sense create interest as well for example a family sitting on a couch - but the couch is in the middle of a field. Or the ever popular old beat up car out in long grass.
Think about the angle from which you take the photo - have them all looking down at you, or you looking down at them.
If you have a digital camera remember it only costs time to try new things. Don't be afraid to try things that are slightly out of the box because if it's not a success, oh well, but it could be the next biggest trend.
