Is there one particular artist or style that has influenced your interest in painting?
Remedios Varo, a Spanish exile that fled to Mexico during the Spanish Civil War. She's described as a para-surrealist, according to Wikipedia, that Virtual Font of All Knowledge Most High.

Absolutely incredible paintings. She's not as well known as Picasso but she was his contemporary, and they were in school together as children.
i had a teacher at school that inspired me when i was 11... he used to let me draw on the blackboard with the chalk and if it was good, the class voted as to leave it on the board for the week or not. most times it was left there. shame i never got pics back then but never thought of it. i learnt a lot about drawing and painting then a couple of years later was encouraged by a tutor to start with watercolour.. i was actually good. and although no known artist has ever inspired me, woudln't know one from the other really. i just look at paintings and either like it or i don't. but anyway i stopped painting for over 25yrs then when i started again, my art teacher had a huge influence.. she's awesome and paints realistic.
Annette Ashton. she's a NZ artist and tutor.
Picasso and secondly Georges Braque. They developed the Cubist period which I've always been fascinated by. I did a cubist piece for my GCSE's and got an A*!
I also love Salvador Dali's surrealism work where he captured imagination perfectly.
Although I've never mimicked impressionistic art, Mary Cassatt's work inspires me to reflect tender moments of parenting and childhood through my art.
Although I have a great liking for Dali, Gaugin and Van Gough's works, I am in awe of John D.Shaw and James Deitz modern works.
Salvador Dali, Hieronymus Bosch, and John Heartfield photomontage to protest Nazism (url is http://germanhistorydocs.ghi-dc.org/sub … ge_id=2098 ) called "Das ist das Heil, das sie bringen!" "This is the Salvation They Are Bringing Us!" (Here, the word salvation [Heil] is a pun on the Nazi “Sieg Heil” used in conjunction with the Hitler salute.)
The small print on the left is an actual excerpt from a Nazi science magazine extolling the BENEFITS of American carpet bombing. In short - it says carpet bombing is highly disturbing and will affect those already mentally imbalanced much more than the average person. These mental unstables will be more easily recognized and identified - in order to 'take care of them' - ( Nazi euphemism for killing any those who are not well enough to work.)
BTW Nazi Germany wasn't the first to "purify the race'
In the 20's there was a campaign for a "fit family' via the 'ideal baby' and the most 'fit family' from a eugenic perspective.
What this Americian display says is "SOME PEOPLE ARE BORN TO BE A BURDEN ON THE REST." and "LEARN ABOUT HEREDITY[...] YOU CAN HELP CORRECT THESE CONDITIONS."

Monet .That is the first artist I saw who made me stop and gaze.I didn't like traditional art.I still love Monet an all the Impressionists.
I can say I am inspired by many painters, through the beauty they have created, but not necessarily to paint in their style. I like to experiment in many styles. If I have to mention some artists whose works I really like they would be: Monet, Salvador Dali, Vladimir Kush, Hautman Brothers and Michael Meissner.
