Art noveau

Updated on September 27, 2011

Art nouveau is a style of art, philosophy, graphic design and architecture. It reached its climax between 1890 and 1905. I just love how complicated the patterns in art nouveau are.

All women looked like fairy-goddesses with complicated hair do and fantastic look. The style was highly influenced by Alphonse Mucha (Czech artist), he is mainly known by his lithographs that depicted a famous actress of the time and diverse advertising items.

I went to Brussels once and I couldn't stop admiring all those art nouveau buildings, it was like all of them were expressions of art nouveau but in incredible different ways. Brussels is the place to admire art nouveau architecture in the highest quantity and quality.

I tried to emulate those ethereal posters of Mucha with my sleeping maiden, I used pastel in canvas.

I agree with you about the beauty of art nouveau. It is one of my favorite styles and the artists Alphonse Mucha and Gustav Klimt are also two of my favorite artists from that period. Your pastel on canvas is very nice and represents the period very well.
