Digital cameras are expensive so if you are looking for the best camera for landscape photography you need to make sure you check out the cameras below before parting with your hard earned cash.

When buying a camera for capturing images of sweeping landscapes there are a few things you need to keep in mind;

  • Landscape photography requires the maximum amount of detail, which generally means the camera with the highest amount of pixels as possible. Full frame cameras generally have the most megapixels however there are many crop sensor cameras with a lot of megapixels, so don't dismiss these.
  • Landscapes don't move therefore a camera that is quick focusing and has a high burst rate is not necessary. Cameras with dual processors are impressive but they really don't make the best camera for landscape photography, especially when you consider how much of a premium you have to pay for them.

Canon eos 5d Mark III digital SLR camera

If you want Canon's best camera for landscape photography the Canon 5d is the model to buy. The Canon 5d is an awesome camera that is a favourite with many professional landscape photographers. The Canon 5d is a full frame camera with more than 20 megapixels, which is simply awesome. If you want to capture detailed photographs you can blow up to billboard size the Canon 5d is the camera to buy.

The Canon 5d mark III is the current Canon 5d model and is a great full frame digital slr camera to own. The 5d mark III has a few more features than the 5d mark II but it does cost considerably more so you have to ask yourself if it is worth spending the extra or not. Best camera for landscape photography - Mirrorless and micro 4/3 cameras

There's no doubt about it, digital slr cameras are the best cameras for landscape photography however there are times when digital slr cameras aren't always practical. Dslr cameras are big, bulky and heavy, which is a hindrance when travelling. Fortunately, there are some smaller digital cameras that are also excellent for landscape photography. These cameras are the mirrorless digital cameras.

Mirrorless cameras offer full manual mode, have interchangeable lenses and are capable of capturing stunning landscape images. These mirrorless cameras are the same size as a point and shoot but have the performance of an entry level digital slr camera so they are one of the best cameras for landscape photography. The mirrorless camera market has soared in recent years and there are now several different cameras to choose from.

Canon EOS M

It took Canon ages to release a micro four thirds camera but the wait was well worth it. Sure, the Nikon V1 and J1 are very good cameras, as is the Panasonic GF3, Olympus EPL and Sony NEX series, but the Canon EOS M blows the competition away.

Like all top end Canon cameras the EOS M is awesome. It is tough, durable and very well made, and you can tell this camera is built to last as soon as you get it in your hands. The Canon EOS M has an awesome 18MP sensor and the images you can capture with this camera are simply stunning. The image quality of the EOS M is far superior to any other micro four thirds camera.

The Canon EOS M is simple to use and intuitive. All the important settings (ISO, aperture, shutter speed etc) are close to hand so you don't have to go digging around in the menu. This means you can capture the types of images you want quickly and efficiently.

Yep, the Canon EOS M is an awesome micro four thirds camera. Before I bought my EOS M I had an Olympus EPL and whilst I liked the Olympus and though it was a great camera, it is nowhere near as good as my Canon EOS M.
