Silhouette Cameo Cutting Machine And Accessories

Invest in 2-3 extra mats. Having them makes multi-mat projects go much faster. You load the first mat, while that one is cutting you can clean the previous one

About The Silhouette Cameo

The Silhouette Cameo is probably the most popular machine in this line. It plugs directly into any personal computer with a USB connection. It will cut paper, cardstock, vinyl, fabric and more up to 12" wide and 10 feet long. It's powered by the Silhouette Studio -it's design program. CAMEO has the ability to cut designs as small as 1/4", and as large as 12".

You can download over 50,000 images from the Silhouette Online store. Or you can also cut or draw any font on your computer, design your own images using the advanced designing tools, or use the 1-click trace feature to import and trace designs

Though bundles vary, the basic bundle is nicely packaged with lots of extras. You get two mats, two cutting blades, a metallic pen and a pick me up tool. Plus you get 50 cuttable designs with the package.

The Silhouette Portrait

The Silhouette Portrait is the smaller version of the Cameo. It has a smaller cutting area. 8" x 12" (20.3 x 30.5 cm) with a cutting mat, and 8" x 10' (20.3 cm x 3 m) with a lined media. It comes with the Silhouette Design software as well as 50 designs. It has an 8 " cutting mat instead of the larger mat in the Cameo.

Favorite Silhouette Tips

Gathered from experienced users, here are my favorite Silhouette tips

  • Always Check The Blade Setting Every Use - I know that we all get busy and excited about your project, but this is one habit you really have to adopt. Forgetting to change the blade setting will really cause you lots of frustration
  • Invest in a dust cover so your machine stays cleaner and will function better
  • To keep the blade lasting longer, turn the blade to zero, unscrew the white cap at the bottom of the blade. clean the area out with a q-tip
  • If your mats are getting grimy, clean them with baby wipes
