48 Awesome Bird and Bird Stuff Craft Ideas

Loraine loves arts and crafts and used to volunteer at an elementary art class. She loves sharing fun and kid-friendly craft tutorials.

For this article I started by searching for birdhouse crafts. I found that although there are a few birdhouse projects, with directions given on how to make them, there weren't enough to write an article on birdhouse crafts alone. So, I decided to add crafts on how to make birds. You'll notice that some of these craft projects have a distinctive modern look and would be a unique addition to the modern decorating style.

1. Bird Bean Bags

The kids will love thinking up games to play with these cute little bird bean bags. You'll find the tutorial for making them at CAPTAIN CRAFTY.

2. Yarn Birds

I think this is an outstanding project. Who would have ever believed that you could make beautiful birds like these using yarn. You'll find the pictured instructions for making these birds at the Marrieta site.

3. Tin Can Feeders

This project uses clean paint cans to make bird feeders that hang in a tree. You'll find the tutorial for making the feeders at Mom Endeavors.


4. Flower Pot Bird Bath

This is a great project to make using clay pots and paints. To make this fabulous bird bath, find the instructions at Dot.com Women.

5. Egg Carton Bird Feeder

For a really simple bird feeder that the kids can make and enjoy watching the birds come to feed, you'll want to visit the Ginger Snap Crafts site.


6. Nest and Bird

Imagine using cupcake papers to make little birds.....what a great idea. And how cute they are. This pre-school and little kid art project has instructions given at parents .

7. Ticking Bird Ornaments

I absolutely think these are the nicest bird ornaments that I've ever seen for decorating a tree. You'll be able to make them by following the instructions at refabulous.

8. Rustic Log Bird Nest Ornament

9. Felt Birds

10. Birdies in a Paper Plate Nest

11. Vintage Teacup Bird Feeder

12. Covered Wire Bird Cage

This is an easy project to make and will look so cute on a shelf or the mantel. Make your own little bird cage by following the tutorial given at Pretty Ditty.

13. Redwood Bird House

For the folks that are interested in making wooden bird houses, this redwood bird house is a real beauty in it's simplicity. The instructions for making the bird house is found at the Sunset site.

14. Ultimate Recycle Bird Bath

Recycling is something we can all enjoy, and dreaming up good uses for used items is sometimes hard to do. But this bird bath made using an old lamp, shows how easy it can be done. Go to SECOND CHANCE TO DREAM to see how to make this bird bath.

15. Shredded Paper Nest

There have been times when I've searched for ideas to make a simple bird nest to either display eggs or a bird, and this is exactly what I needed. The instructions for making this shredded paper nest is found at hello, Wonderful.

16. Burlap Bird Ornaments

I am a big fan of burlap crafts so these burlap bird ornaments really appeal to me. You'll find the tutorial for making these cute little bird ornaments at The Country Chic Cottage.


17. Fabulous Paper Mache Birds

These beautiful birds are found on the that artist woman site. These would be so much fun to make.

18. Bird Cosies

These little birds look so cute whether used as cosies, or just as additions to a centerpiece. I can see a few of them placed on a mantle. Go to Creativity DIRECT for the instructions. Too cute!!

19. Pom Pom Birds

These are such special looking little birdies. I can imagine making a mobile with them for a baby's room or a girl's room. Find the tutorial for this cool project at mollymoo .

20. Birdie Condo

For a shabby chic look, paint all the birdhouses white and sand the edges. There are so many ways to make this birdhouse unique and one of a kind. For the directions, go to Cathie Filian.

21. Rustic Birdhouse

This birdhouse made from barn wood has a distinctive rustic look. For the directions, go to Barn Geek.com.

22. Birds in a Nest

Even the littlest kids will love making these bluebirds in a nest. Find the directions at The Seasoned Mom.

23. Birdfeeder

This is really a cool looking bird feeder and see what it's made from. The directions for this feeder are at favecrafts.

24. Bird and Bird Cage

You'll learn how to make this cute birdcage using paper covered wire by following the tutorial at Pretty Ditty. A template for making the little bird is also included in the tutorial.

25. Birdhouse Ornament

You could make a whole tree full of these and have the little kids help. Different colors or trims will change the looks. Go to that artist woman for the directions for this project.

27. Plush Birdies

Easy to make and yet so cute. You'll want to stick some of these little birdies in gift baskets. Find out how to make them by going to Bird's Party.

28. Gourd Birdhouse

This is just one idea of how to make a birdhouse out of a gourd. I think I'll plant some gourds this spring so I can try this out. For the directions for this project, go to FUN IN THE MAKING.

29. Owl Mug Wrap

I can see making owl mug wraps as gifts for teachers or office mates, as well as for family gifts. The instructions for making this owl mug wrap are found at the RED HEART site.

30. Birdhouse in the Square

So simple and so pretty, these birdhouses will be a snap to make. For the directions, go to Canadian Living.

31. Paperback Bird

Now you've got a great way to use up old paperback books that you didn't want to just toss. You'll find out how to make these birds at STYLISH TRENDY.

32. Coffee Can Birdhouse

Don't throw away those empty coffee cans, you can make a home for a birdie instead. You'll find the directions at AllFreeCrafts.com.

I love this simple, colorful project that is made with cardboard tubes. The kids will have a blast painting and decorating tubes to make into birds by following the instructions at CRAFTS BY Amanda.

38. Sculpted Bird

This is a paper mache project that I think is absolutely beautiful. Go to THE SHINY SHINY DESIGN COMPANY for the directions.

39. Jungle Birds

These jungle birds start out by using a plastic egg and then gets built up using newspaper. Get all the directions by going to the Creativity DIRECT for the instructions.

40. Bluebird Brooch

41. Tabletop Birdie Nest

I really like the looks of this little tabletop project. If you want to try it, the directions are at Parents.

42. Egg Cup Angry Birds

43. Sparkling Bird Ornament

45. Refrigerator Magnets

This is a great project to do with the little kids. Go to Parents to see how easily this is to do.

47. Owl Egg

48. Big Cardboard Birds

This is one project that I'll be doing with my grandkids this summer. I love the idea of "big" birds, and I know the kids will love making them. The instructions are found at Krokotak.

      Your sculpted bird is nice, but your directions to get instructions is less than working. I went to the link, there are 3000 video, non that are for sculpted birds, paper mache, or diy. Could you please put an actual link to the instructions, or, the name of the video. Thank you.

      When I was a kid, we used to make bird feeders out of plastic gallon milk jugs. Things have gotten a lot more creative (and more beutiful) since then!
