Button Crafts

Crafting with Buttons

Crafting with buttons is one of the most fun ways to show off pretty buttons whether they're vintage buttons or new ones. Buttons are made of all types of materials like glass, shell, plastic, Bakelite, and wood to name a few.

The button crafts shown here are suitable all ages. By all ages, I mean that some of these craft projects are geared toward kids and others are a little more adventuresome to keep a seasoned craft digging through the button jar.

Display Marbles on Buttons

Vintage buttons or even new buttons are excellent little stands to display marbles.

Choose the right size button for the marble. A slight dip in the center of the button makes a perfect place for the round marble to rest. To make a small display of marbles, this trick works great.

Set the buttons on a small tray with a lip to catch the marbles if they get bumped to keep the marbles from rolling away.

Button Labels

Store Your Buttons in Style

Cathe at the blog Just Something I Made shares a beautiful way to store your buttons. She used some button labels from The Graphics Fairy to come up with these beautiful jars and a box for storing buttons.

These jars and boxes would be perfect for gift giving, too. Make up some and fill them with old buttons to hand down some of Grandma's buttons to family members.

I absolutely love buttons. I used to play games with my grandma's buttons. Narrow bottle top and drop the buttons in the bottle. Sometimes I just sorted them into size or color, or both. I have grown up looking at buttons, making buttons from polymer clay and adding them to knitted items I've made. Buttons make the project POP!

You sure made me smile here with memories of when I used to enjoy going through my Mom's button box to find these wonderful pieces of art. Thank goodness so many vintage buttons were saved way back when a button was always removed for its next task when a garment was taken apart and probably made into rug. Delightfully done!...*
