Canon eos digital body only

Updated on August 15, 2012

The best way to buy a Canon digial SLR camera

Why buy a Canon eos digital body only? Well, when I bought my first digital slr camera I learnt the hard way and purchased a starter kit consisting of a camera and a kit lens. The lens was OK for learning how to use a dslr camera and taking mediocre photographs, but I soon outgrew the kit lens and needed a better lens to take my photography skills to the next level. This meant I had to spend even more money on a decent lens. As soon as I got my new lens the kit lens was left taking up room, and collecting dust, in the cupboard never to be used again. I did try and sell the kit lens but I had no takers, so the money spent on the kit lens was a total waste. If I had my time again I would definitely have bought the Canon eos digital body only.

Canon eos body only deals

There is a vast selection of Canon eos bodies available and they range from the entry level eos 1100d/Rebel T3 and go right through to Canon's flagship professional grade eos 1d x. Yep, there is a canon eos digital body only for all photographers, no matter what the experience. From the learner to the fully fledged professional photographer, Canon has something for all and I urge you to take a look at Canon eos digital body only.

"What's the point in having a camera with no lens?" I hear you cry. If you already have one Canon dslr camera and want a backup camera or an upgrade, I am sure you will already have a collection of lenses, so what's the point in having a budget kit lens? There really isn't one. Even if you are a first time dslr camera user and are looking at purchasing your first canon dslr camera buying a Canon eos digital body only has many advantages over buying a canon dslr camera and lens kit.

First off, a Canon eos digital body only is cheaper than a camera kit, something I am sure you have already worked out. When buying a Canon eos digital body only there are loads of deals around and you will be able to get one for a good price. Take a look on the internet and you will find several Canon eos bodies for sale at rock bottom prices, so there are plenty of savings to be made.

What's wrong with the kit lens then?

The kit lens supplied with Canon dslr cameras usually consists of a standard zoom lens, such as the 28mm - 135mm f3.5 - 5.6 USM lens, which is purely a budget lens. This is an all-round lens that is a "jack of all trades and master of none", sure you can use it for portrait photography and landscape photography etc but the images are going to be mediocre at best. The Canon 28mm - 135mm lens is slow and has inferior optics compared to other Canon lenses, so it really isn't worth having and you will soon find yourself wanting and needing a better Canon lens. Because of this you are better off buying a Canon eos digital body only.

Lenses, lenses......... so many lenses

When you buy a canon eos digital body only you have the freedom to buy whatever lens is best for the subjects you predominantly photograph. So, if you want to take portraits you can buy a small prime lens, if you want to take photographs of landscapes you can buy a wide angle lens, if you want to take close up images of flowers and insects you can buy a macro lens etc. If you think you are missing a bargain if you don't buy a camera and kit lens package don't worry since when you buy a new camera you will get a good deal on whatever lens you want, providing you buy both at the same time of course.

There are times when you find a retailer will have a cheap camera body and expensive lenses and another retailer will have expensive camera bodies and cheap lenses. If you buy a Canon eos digital body only and lens separately you will be able to make the best saving and get the best value for money, and we all like a bargain right?

Rather than spending out on a kit lens it makes more sense to get a decent lens in the first place, and this will save you money and hassle in the long run. Believe me. Check out top Canon lenses for some of the best Canon lenses currently available.

Here's my recommendation

There are times when you find a retailer will have a cheap camera body and expensive lenses and another retailer will have expensive camera bodies and cheap lenses. If you buy a Canon eos digital body only and lens separately you will be able to make the best saving and get the best value for money, and we all like a bargain right?

So if you are in the market for a new Canon digital slr camera I would strongly urge you to stay away from the all in one camera and lens kit. Instead, buy the Canon eos digital body only and buy the lens separately. When you buy a new camera you will get a good deal on whatever lens you want, providing you buy both at the same time of course, so you can still get a bargain.
