Charmed Knits Book Review

Updated on July 6, 2015

A Hufflepuff Scarf from the Book

Knitting Along with Mrs. Weasley

Knitters can't watch the Harry Potter movies without admiring the Hogwarts house scarves, uniform sweaters, and other knitted clothing worn by the young wizards. We also identify with Mrs. Weasley, who knits Christmas sweaters for her large family every year. Alison Hansel has given knitters a delightful gift in this book, Charmed Knits. Some of the patterns are her own, others were gathered from Potter fans far and wide.

The projects include socks, sweaters, hats, a wizard robe and hat, and much more. There is even a blanket based on Mrs. Weasley's clock. Every pattern is ranked for difficulty: First Year, Ordinary Wizarding Level, or Nastily Exhausting Wizarding Test.

The photo at right (by the author) is a tubular scarf in Hufflepuff house colors.

Whew! Finished Mrs. Weasley's Amazing Sleeves - Crocheted Sleeves on a Knit Sweater

When I saw these sleeves on Mrs. Weasley in "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" my first thought was, "I want to crochet that!" I was so happy to find the pattern in this great book. My youngest daughter wanted this sweater, so I adjusted a bit to keep the amazing ruffled sleeves from getting too long. It is fun to use so many colors with reckless abandon!

I took this photo myself, with great relief that the project turned out so well.

I am now trying the "Invisibility Shawl" from the book in a laceweight alpaca yarn given to me by a fellow knitter. I think it will turn out well. If so, i'll post a picture to this hub.
