Why I Got Started In Crochet Design...
Once upon a time, there was this crocheter living in Nebraska (that would be me!) who was hit with a neuromuscular disease called Myasthenia Gravis. Well, this disease decided it would attack my eyesight, perhaps my most precious thing. I developed double vision that is constantly there at certain distances. That will be forever.
It became very difficult to focus my eyes on a pattern instruction, then quickly refocus back to the crochet work. At the time that happened, I was working on a bunch of Rose doilies from the 1953 Workbasket magazine, along with working through a book of doilies by my favorite designer, Josie Rabier. I managed to finish what I was working on, and that was that. I've never crocheted from a pattern since, although I do enjoy my vast collection of crochet patterns – my "eye candy."
Well, I wasn't about to stop crocheting! I started playing around with thread, just doing my own thing, and I never looked back. I designed dozens of flower motifs, turning several into little doilies. I learned what would work and what wouldn't, Eventually, it occurred to me I should be writing these patterns down! And thus a whole collection of little notebooks full of crochet pattern scribbles was born. That was great, but again frustrating... because it was hard for my eyes to work from my own patterns! So basically... I never repeat anything. I just move on!

Turning My Patterns Into An E-Book Was Exciting!
In 2012, a good friend and I were chatting about all those notebooks full of patterns. I wanted to type all of them up so I could publish them on the internet, but the eyesight struck again - very difficult for me to type from notes, that focus problem again. My friend Heidi solved my problem when she offered to type them all up for me! Unfortunately her computer was stolen and we lost all the work.
Now I've gotten smart - I try very hard to pattern on the computer, rather than handwriting. That way I have it in text form from the get-go. And that's the way we roll now!
Eventually I managed to pull together a collection of 20 patterns to publish into my first e-book, "Floral Ornaments To Crochet." It's available now at Amazon. I'm very proud of this collection of patterns and I want to share it with the world. I have published countless free crochet patterns online over the years, but this is so much nicer having it all together in one e-book! In fact, there will actually be 12 e-books when I finish! I've decided to do each book as a separate theme. The first is floral ornaments and motifs. The second will be crocheted jewelry. And so on...
One more little note... in addition to crocheting, I've had a Miniature Schnauzer rescue since 1998. There are currently three rescue furkids here. The furkids who are here are un-placeable for various reasons, so we serve as a little "Schnauzer Sanctuary" for the rest of their lives. I'm on a fixed income, so I rely on donations and sales of my creations to provide these needs. 100% of the proceeds of this ebook directly support the furkids in our rescue, Sheila's Schnauzies.
So all of the furkids say "Woo-Roo!" which is Schnauzerese for "Thanks for helping us!"
