8 Reasons Why I Love Crocheting
1. Crochet is Cool and Fun
I find crocheting to be cool and fun. It is one of many hobbies I enjoy. Right now it is having a comeback of sorts in the crafting community especially in the UK.
I started crocheting in 1999 when pregnant with my second son. Little did I know when I started this little craft that I would soon be addicted to all things crochet, knitting, felting, and pretty much anything to do with yarn.
Back in 2007 when I started my very first blog I came up with 'Momwithahook' as my handle. It actually has two meanings. The first of course is that I am a mom with a crochet hook. The second has more of a spiritual meaning. My original intent was to merge the two - crocheting and spirituality.
In the Christian faith there is a story about Jesus talking with some fishermen. He asked them if they would like to fish for men. This means spreading the story of love and forgiveness throughout the world. I wanted to do this with my writing and crocheting.
My faith has evolved since 2007 and although I do have Christian roots I'm not so much into converting people to this faith as I am to LOVE as the healer of all that ails the human race. My motto now is NOT religion but to 'Love at ALL Times.'
Crocheting is more than a hobby to me as you will see in my 8 Reasons Why I Love Crocheting. .

3.Yarn - A Healthy Fiber Addiction - Vote for Your Favorite Fiber (Yarn) Below
What type of yarn do you enjoy working with?
For amigurumi, I like to use acrylic because it holds up to the shape I am after better. For hats, I enjoy Vanna's Choice because it's a soft and affordable yarn.

5. Crochet Can Be a Business - Designing Crochet Patterns, Crocheting for Others, & Writing About Crochet
In 2007 I received regular compliments and orders of my crochet items. I took this to mean that I should sell my work. I did for a number of years on Etsy but found it wasn't the right fit.
Crochet is my relaxation and once custom orders started coming in it became WORK instead.
Now I write about crochet which for me is fun.
Stay-at-Home Moms and Crochet
For many stay-at-home moms a second income to help the family's finances is a dream.
Many will come across people who will take advantage of this dream but crochet is a legitimate business opportunity.
You can sell crochet online at places like Etsy.com or Artfire.com and even on your own crochet blog.
Extroverts will love selling crochet at craft shows and home parties.

6. Lots of Crochet Designs to Choose From - Next to Yarn Shopping Crochet Pattern Shopping is the Tops
When it comes to browsing sites like Craftsy.com or Ravelry.com I can spend hours searching for the right pattern.
I think half the fun of crochet is browsing patterns and feeling the various fibers in the yarn shop.
Have you participated in a yarn tasting? NO, you don't taste it, you feel the yarn and work with it to get an idea of how it will work up in your favorite stitch.
7. Teaching Crochet for the Love of It - Crochet Videos on Youtube by Teresa 'Crochet Geek'
My first online teacher was Teresa on Youtube. I learned a lot about different stitches, how to hold yarn, cheap but useful substitutions for stitch markers and hook grips, and the pure love of the craft.
Teresa started her Youtube career simply because she was taking a video class in college. Crochet was her hobby and it naturally became the focus of her practice videos.
To her surprise and YouTube her crochet channel became very popular. She was one of the first partners and her community grows each day.
One thing I like most about her teaching is that it is free and simple. Videos make it so you can stop something and replay it over and over again until you learn it.
She answers questions from her community and is always rooting for the little guy. She often showcases the small crochet businesses that are among her fans in little video highlights.
