A Quick Snowflake To Crochet!

If you have some scrap metallic thread leftover from Christmases past, here's a great project to use it up! I've designed this snowflake in three colors to make the angels stand out as they dance around the circle.

You can add the optional Swarovski crystal accents as I did on top of the angel halos if you like. You can wire them on with craft wire, you can sew them on, or easiest of all you can crochet them in as you go.

Wouldn't your tree look pretty with a bunch of these in different colors? Or you may just crochet one in very special threads to add to your treasured ornament collection. I'm sure your friends and family would appreciate a snowflake or two to decorate their holiday trees! I've crocheted a few in different sizes of thread to show you some possibilities. Here is one done in sewing thread with a size 11 hook. I'm planning to starch and use it as a pendant. This pattern will work with any size of thread or yarn using the corresponding hook size.

The complete pattern is shown below. You'll need to know double and treble crochet stitches to do this piece. A handy YouTube tutorial is below if you need to add those stitches to your collection. Happy crocheting!

What You Will Need

To Do The Thread Snowflake:

Small amounts of three colors of crochet thread. I used white, silver and gold for the example.

12 Swarovski crystals (optional)

Craft Wire (optional)

Crochet hook size 8 or your preferred

OR

To Do The Yarn Snowflake:

1 pkg. Lion Brand BonBons Yarn (tiny skeins)

OR small amounts Sock weight yarn in desired colors) - gold and silver. If you happen to have some Vanna's "Glamour" on hand, or any size 3 crochet thread, that will work great too!

Crochet hook size C or preferred

A Word About Yarn & Thread Selection...

You may use different yarns such as scrap yarns or threads with good results! Just make sure to keep them similar in weight and thickness so as not to throw off the pattern.

I recently purchased this for myself. It's handy to know how much yarn a given project requires when you're going to be making more than one!

Optional Crystals

You may wish to add crystals just above the angels’ heads, over the halos. You can crochet them in as you go, you can sew them on, or you can do as I did and attach them with 24 gauge wire and pliers.

I also added a wire hanging loop attached to one point over an angel. You can also crochet a chain hanger loop at your finishing point.

This is so much more attractive than what I used for years, a 3 pound coffee can with a hole cut in the plastic lid! Anybody testify? Bonus... this won't snag your thread, either.

A Note From Your Designer...

Hi, I'm SheilaSchnauzies, also published as SheilaSparkles, and my life's passion is designing in Crochet! I also love to share gifts with friends, and this pattern is my gift to you! I give away about 95% of my pattern designs free. The other 5% are sold on my pattern store at Craftsy.com to benefit the vet expenses of my Miniature Schnauzer Rescue, Sheila's Schnauzies.

Just one little favor, please... I would appreciate it if you do not post this pattern anywhere on the Internet or in the 'real world.' Instead, you are most welcome to provide a link to this webpage.

I use a system I call the "Official Schnauzer Difficulty Rating" just for fun, to rate the difficulty of my patterns. If it's a 3/5 or more, I'll explain why I consider it more difficult. A few of my designs use techniques that are a bit unconventional! If it's one of those patterns, I'll warn you ahead of time. I do a lot of custom-fit patterns, for example. They are made to fit YOU, not a measurement from a chart. They're surprisingly easy to do and actually end up fitting. That's a good thing, yes?

So glad you found my patterns! I hope you really enjoy making whatever it is you're making! Crochet hugs, -Sheila
