Finding The GIMP Fractal Explorer
Follow this tutorial to find the GIMP Fractal Explorer. Then go to the next section on this page to use it.
- Open GIMP
- Click on "File"
- Select "New"
Adjust the Width and Height to 500 Pixels
- Click on the "ok" button
- Locate and click on the "filter" tab of the new blank image.
Scroll down to "render" and watch the submenu open.
- Select "Fractal Explore" from the "render" submenu.

You will need to have a printer and iron on transfer paper. The instructions are included in the DVD-ROM fractal design collection. Be sure to follow ironing instructions included with the transfer paper you use.
Using The Fractal Explorer Tool in GIMP
There are three steps in the Fractal Explorer Tool.
All three of the steps within the Fractal Explorer Tools are very forgiving. So...Have Fun.
- Select the Parameters
- Experiment! Change the slider settings,
- click on the "fractal type" options.
- Watch the preview change with every settings adjustment.
Click the "reset" button to return to the original settings.
- When you find something you like, then go to the next tab in the explorer "color"
Take your time and choose a variety of color options. Several areas in the color section render a variety of results.
- When you have a design you like, click on the "ok" button.
- Be sure to click on "file" again and locate "save as," then
- put your image in a file where you can find it later and name your image.
Make a few designs and again I encourage you to have fun, experiment with the settings, and gradually allow your results to evolve.
