Silhouette Clip Art -- Graphics of Outlines in Black

Silhouettes are images outlined and filled in with dark material, usually black, that are presented against a white or light background. These free silhouette clip art images can be used in your personal projects.

Silhouette art and designs provide a more muted or understated look, something that full color or detailed images can't do.

This silhouette of a squirrel and musical elf cracks me up! Please visit The Graphics Fairy to download this free silhouette clip art.

Make Your Own Silhouettes

Immortalize kids, pets, whatever you like

Leah posted all sorts of fun DIY projects on her blog, More Ways to Waste Time. Back in 2007, she wrote a great blog entry called How to Make Silhouette Portraits.

The technique uses Photoshop to transform a digital image (or a scanned photo, I image) from a photograph into a silhouette.

Leah has since closed her blog, but I love this tutorial and thank her for leaving it up for us all to enjoy.

For another option of making your own silhouettes, try Emily's tutorial from Women Get Social with the SITS Sisters. This method uses an actual printed image of a person (or a thing) that is then painted black and cut out. Then it's mounted on white paper and framed.

For non-technical folks, this one might be a bit easier and is certainly something the kids could do. A child's profile in silhouette would make a wonderful Mother's Day or Father's Day gift!

At least I don't have a five o'clock shadow. That would be bad. Silhouettes are fun, but the spelling of the word is not.
