Vintage Advertisements Free Digital Collage Sheets
Free printable collage sheets, amazing public domain ads from 1898-1908
For years I've hoarded a collection of women's magazines dated 1898-1908, intending on using them in collage. I can't bear to cut up these amazing historical papers and I've been feeling selfish for keeping them to myself. With the popularity of digital collage sheets - scans of ephemera that anyone can print from their own computer - it finally occurred to me that I can share this wealth with other collage and mixed media artists. So I set about scanning in page after paper of these beautiful Victorian magazines, all at 600dpi for the highest quality images. (Well actually, they're Edwardian, if you want to get technical.)
This is the first of what I hope will be many pages I set up; I'm starting with ten sheets of just the lovely advertisements; mostly from the back of the magazine, I've cut-and-paste to create full pages of ads but otherwise left the pages more or less just as I found them, so that you can do with them as you please. I hope you enjoy these, there are so many beautiful illustrations and the lettering is often wonderful as well!

All these line drawings are perfect for collage, but you can make them your own by coloring the images in. Prismacolors are the best colored pencils I've ever used, and are such fun for adding color to these old black and white images. Try it on the collage sheet printed with their naturally aged background - or print the sheets in greyscale if you'd prefer a purer background to work with.
