There is such a sense of freedom when flying a kite and seeing where the wind takes it. I know how much I enjoy it. It makes me feel like a kid again.

The first kite is said to have been invented in China about 3,000 years ago. Over time they have been used for many things outside of a toy. They have been used in wars for such things as signaling and rescue, to help keep evil spirits away and for numerous scientific experiments.

Ben Franklin Kite Experiment

Even though some dispute it, Benjamin Franklin has been credited with discovering electricity by flying a kite in a storm.

Although the concept of electricity had been around for awhile, his experiment showed how lightening was a form of electricity.

Don't try this experiment on your own. It's way too dangerous! However, check out the coloring page below to see what it may have looked like.

We like to fly kites in Newport, Rhode Island. There is a park there on the ocean, it's a point of land, actually, right on the water and the kites go right up. We had a 12 foot kite at one time. It never flew straight, though, but it looked great! Your lens was so interesting. I even watched the video. Thanks, Linda
