Goth Knitting

Updated on September 8, 2014

Dark and Mysterious Knits for Dark and Mysterious Knitters

Knitting is goth. The mystical bonding of yarn. The creation of new and unusual shapes. The ability to make clothes precision fit to your whims and ignore the latest fad. The graceful (or not so graceful) motions of imposing your will on a recalcitrant ball of yarn. And of course, getting to hold pointy sticks in the palm of your hand.

With all these benefits, what else would a vampiress do on those dreary winter mornings before retiring to her coffin? It is my goal to provide the most complete listing of goth knitting patterns on the net, so that every vampiress (and vampire) can spend less time in searching for the perfect pattern, and more time knitting.

Here you will find the basic resources available online for goth knitters. I include not just goth sites, but other funky, freaky, and just plain fun sites here.

Knitting and sewing is not my strongpoint, but I enjoy anyone who can pull this off and knit some cool designs, I prefer to draw mine on paper and colour them with felt tips, but that is just me.

      Great lens!!

My sister knits and saw a glow in the dark Bernat yarn yesterday at Michael's. The display had a toddler with a skeleton sweater on using said yarn. Of course...no pattern. I've looked on the web but was hoping you may have one.

      Thanks!

      Hi Melissa,

Sorry for the delay in answer--I can't find a pattern either. If your sister has some knitting experience (it doesn't actually take a whole lot) I'd recommend she find a plain toddler sweater pattern (perhaps in The Knitter's Handy Book of Patterns) and a skeleton chart and simply replace the plain stockinette stitch in the front with the color pattern from the chart. If you can't find a skeleton chart perhaps you could use this http://www.microrevolt.org/knitPro/ to make one from a picture. I hope that's helpful, and if I find any other options I'll be sure to post them!

Hey, I answered your questions and had an idea or two. I think it would be great to categorize your links to patterns by the article made, but also have a section on making certain stitches or motif's/themes that are more common to your Gothic clients.

The reason I am here is not because I am Gothic, I am trying to give gifts from the heart this year for Christmas and wanted to knit a scarf for my husband to wear when he rides his motorcycle. He is not 'into' scarves or anything else I can make him, but I thought I would surprise him with a scarf with flames on it, and this seemed like a good place to look!

By the way, love your site, the way it's set up is very clear and easy to navigate! My husband designs websites for extra money, so I notice these things!

My son-in-law wanted a diaper bag that wasn't "girly" when he takes the baby around (know it's a boy) so they picked out one that had a skull on it cause that was more manly for him and he wouldn't be embarrassed carting it around. I decided to knit the baby a hat to match after hearing that. So went looking for skull patterns. Love the Deathflake. Very elegant. Will look very sweet on the baby when he finally gets here. Planning on surprising them and this will defininitely do it. Now to decide on the color for the background. Thanks for the links. It's an interesting way to spend a few hours and find new things to create.

Hello. I am neither a punk nor gothic. I am a mum who adores knitting, way over here in the Middle East. I found your site after running a search on yahoo for 'unusual knitting patterns'. And while I was only searching for new patterns of leaves, roses, vines and such, I ended up seeing bats, spiders, and lots & lots of other wonderful things! (and just incidentally, both are creatures that people believe bring good luck, in this part of the world I mean).

And so I wished to leave a comment, because I think that your patterns, and most of all, your willingness to share them, with just everyoneeverywhere, are just absolutely great!

Should it not trouble you, I would wish to send you some knitting patterns as well in the future. And while mine are some 3 thousand years old, they may help you see, that your patterns contain a memory, quite old.

      Please take care

      Lara

I want to learn to knit, but I hated most of the patterns for sale at the various craft stores where I looked. Most looked either geared to old woman or 30 years out of date. So I thought I would look for fun gothy patterns to motivate me to pursue this new hobby.
