How to Make a 3d Display with Old Boxes and Temporary Tattoos - Halloween Upcycle Craft

Scary spider Halloween boxes

Spiders, little scary monsters!

Hi, guys and gals. Halloween is coming on fast and I can't wait. I love the scary season. This year I wanted to do something a little different than the normal witches, jack-o-lanterns, and black cats we have in our holiday décor box.

I also needed to do some scrap busting and get rid of some boxes. You see, lately I have given myself what is turning out to be a scary challenge. It is to reuse every single box that normally goes in the trash. Doesn't sound hard does it? I didn't think so. Wrong again!

The irony abounds. Get this, the sweetest most yummy thing is handing me my head on a plate! I'm getting my behind stomped by pie. Yes, that's right, pie.

As the night of scary draws near,

there comes a chill this time of year...

Snakes and spiders, icky, scary boo!

Watch out now. They'll come get you.

All Hallows Eve ever near does approach

the night of witches, goblins and ghosts.

Grab your gear and be prepared to run.

In the meantime, you up for scary fun?

At four for a dollar, the pie boxes are mounding up. Let's make something.

Snacks, deserts, pie, pie, and more pie.

Thank God, the pies are sugar free.

Of course, that doesn't balance the boatload of fat but a gal can only give up so much. The mountain of little pie boxes is steadily taking over. I'm telling you, it's alive!

Time to take on the mountain.

Follow along in the photo gallery to see how to turn this into a spooky, spidy, scary time, craft fest. Let the kids crank up the "Monster Mash" and get to creating.

Halloween, scary boo, type chic on the cheap.

You can never have enough ideas.

The ideas and creativity abound in this one. The crafts are actually doable and just ten kinds of too cute.Better yet, the craft ideas and detailed projects don't require an arm and a leg in supplies. Most of it is pretty common stuff you may already have on hand. The same holds true for the tools.

Sugary nibbles, cake, sweets for eating,

tonight is all about the trick or treating.

But, keep a good watchful eye ever peeled.

You don't know what's yet to be revealed.

All Hallows Eve comes but once a year,

that night all humans instinctively fear.

For the spirits roam unchecked and free,

searching for a soul... don't let it be thee!

Big spider!

Yuck. Now, that's scary. The very idea of spiders crawling around the beads, laces and bobbles just gives me the willies.

The paper doily fans are so easy. Just fold it like you did a paper fan when you were a kid and glue it down.

Pretty, lacy, and shiny calls.

little girls succumb to it all.

All that glitters is not gold, you see,

sometimes it is there just to lure thee,

like a fish to a hook

with just one look.

The fallen angle was most fair to behold,

beautiful, eloquent and adorned in gold.

Many a maiden fell to his deceptive spell and continues to do so to this very day.

Guard your heart most close, but your head closer, or you will be the next prey.

Let's do some crafting to slow the roll on box mountain. I've got to do something to stop this seemingly exponential growth.

Alone or dispersed here and there throughout the house, in groupings or even stacks, you can add a little scary for pennies really. The kids will love getting to make something scary, not to mention getting to play with tattoos :).

I did not line the interior sides on all of these. It would have looked much better if I had. It's Okay. Here's an easy fix. Spray hair spray and sprinkle glitter. Then, spray again. It works like glue! Anything could be used as an interior side panel lining really, cloth, ribbon, pebbles, plastic spiders, beads, rock salt, rice, you name it. Let your imagination run wild into the scary places.

On a side note, I'm not a fan of kids actually wearing tattoos. I have seen too many 15 year old girls around here tattoo their boyfriends name on their neck to turn around a month later and be in a serious state of regret. It's the latest fad :(.

Tattoos for crafting, not permanent body art on children. Just my thoughts.

Don't waste your money on something that only comes out once a year. Do it yourself. Crafting is so much more fun than traffic and crowds at the mall.

Trick or treating or old magic feeding?

Fairies, princesses, angels and queens

Costumes and candy, what does it mean?

Superheroes and monsters, parties and games,

eyeballs for food and some holiday gets blamed.

Where did it start this evening of Hallows?

What is it about? What really are they after?

Is is a marketing stroke of genius by suits,

something more sinister, old magic in cahoots

with the dispossessed spirits that still roam at night

wanting so much more than a simple child's fright.

Get your candy and frolic among all the fun scary?

Travel in packs, stay together, and be most wary.

I like how with the spiders, since they can crawl in any direction, I can turn the boxes in any direction thereby getting many more looks :).
