My two little children inspired me to write this hub. During both pregnancies and after both births of my children I was writing a diary about my feelings and experiences to keep every special moment. But those diaries are very simple notebooks with scratchy writing you can't present to the public. For this reason, I said to myself that I want to make beautiful baby albums out of them as soon as I have the time to do it. Writing this hub is the first step.
The first smile, the first tooth and then the first childhood friend: These are all unique and very special moments in the first few months and years of a child. There are beautiful baby albums and baby diaries to keep the memories in words and pictures. For skimming through the book - or for your child if she or he gets older.
Capture those special moments of your baby
Baby albums and baby diaries: A valuable treasure for later
Writing, photos and space for keepsakes like birth ribbon or the first curl: Once created, baby albums and baby diaries are a valuable treasure for parents and children.
Here are some beautiful pregnancy and baby albums and diaries
The most beautiful experiences in the first year for your baby diary
For the baby diary a hardcover book with a colorful color like pink, light blue or a strong yellow or orange is well-suited. You may put either a beautiful picture of your baby or a fantasy character made from colorful paper like a teddy bear, a heart or a locomotive on the cover. As a title you may write "baby diary" and in a smaller font "First year" or "First twelve months". Write your baby's first and last name on the cover or on the first page. Then add a short title, the single experiences and development steps with indication of date, texts and photos in a chronological order.
Pregnancy: course of pregnancy, appointments, pregnant belly pictures, ultrasound pictures, gynecologist's calling card, meaning of baby's first names.
Birth: course of birth, photos of the newborn and their parents, birth ribbon, greeting cards, birth announcement, information about size, weight and head circumference, information about the hospital and the first visitors
The first few days at home: the journey home, the arrival at home, photos of the crib, the room and house, photos of the first visitors
Baptism: the baptismal ceremony and the following celebration, a photo of the baby and the guests, a photo of the church and the priest, a business card of the restaurant, the menu card.
Easter, Christmas, New Year's Eve and first birthday: celebration, photo of the baby and the guests, a list of the gifts.
Motor skills, language, eating, sleeping, learning and playing, health and trips: when did the baby do what and how for the first time?
Taking a bath, putting on a diaper, body contact, calming techniques: how did the baby behave? What did he or she particularly like?
Capture your baby's smile
Baby's development month by month for the baby diary
There will be 12 pages with the titles "the first month", "the second month", the third month" and so on. Besides a lot of pictures you should write down more adventures of the baby's first year: the first thunderstorm or the first time with the babysitter. You can also describe a normal weekday with its fixed meal and bed times and rituals. On the last pages of the diary there is some space for additional valuable memories: the first hair strand, hand and footprints made with finger paint, photos of parents, grandparents and siblings, the family tree, growth curves of size, weight and head circumference.
Tips for writing a baby diary
At the beginning you are enthusiastically starting to write into your baby album or baby diary and then quickly postpone writing and pasting in photos because of the turbulent baby's everyday life. Here are some tips for making the documentation of baby's highlights easier:
Try to write regularly into the baby diary – then you won't need to add too much later.
And always remember: writing a diary is fun! Don't take it as a daily (or maybe only weekly) compulsory exercise.
Writing regularly will come more easily to you if you firmly integrate it in your daily routine: in the mornings while having your first cup of tea, at lunchtime, while your baby is taking an after-lunch nap or in the evenings as a last day activitiy.
If you have to add something to your baby album: try to remember together with your partner or with the help of photos, then many memories will be quickly awaken. With a dairy you can just restart without the aim of adding all the missing parts.
If you keep a diary in written form without a special album: don't take on too much. Start with three sentences a day (for example, what was particularly beautiful today? What was challenging today? What did we do?) – you can add improvements later!
Write everything that comes to your mind: your aim should not be a perfect language and a correct spelling. Also half sentences or keywords are enough to keep memories.
You can also write from your baby's view – this is sometimes easier and it's very funny to read afterwards.
For a diary in written form you may take a beautiful calendar: the space is limited and you will not be overstrained by too much white paper.
Also a photo diary is a great memory: take a photo everyday and paste it either into an album or file it in an online album. Don't take a picture of your baby only when he or she is smiling but also when he or she is ranting, with a spilled shirt, sleeping, together with his or her sister etc.
The first words and steps, emotions and friends: later we can't remember everything anymore we had experienced or felt in the first three years of life. It's a pity as we would like to know how everything was in the past. With some lovingly made keepsakes parents not only please themselves but also bring great pleasure to their children.

Scrapbooking: How to create your own baby album
Scrapbooks are a very beautiful way of keeping memories for eternity. As the baby age of your own children is one of the most beautiful and exciting times it is absolutely worth creating an album out of it. And not only you but also the grandparents, the godparents and even the children themselves will surely love to look at this baby album even years later. Learn how to create a beautiful scrapbook easily.
Here are some design ideas for your scrapbook
Scrapbooks are a work-intensive version of a normal photo album with a smaller number of photos which are presented in a very special way.
A scrapbook tells us a little story on each page or double page. You don't only paste in photos of the most beautiful moments with your baby but also write a short story or description of this moment. The remaining page can be decorated with suitable embellishments or keepsakes like your baby's hair strand or tickets.
With the additional decoration and the text you make sure the most beautiful moments will vividly remain in your memories. Furthermore, the corresponding emotions will be excellently conveyed.

The baby scrapbook – topics and design ideas
- The first topic should be the birth, of course. Choose a beautiful picture which was taken shortly after the birth and maybe a footprint of your baby. The birth card of the hospital or decorative elements like a picture of a stork or a pacifier may complete the page(s).
- You can also document the arrival at home and embellish it with a car or a drawing of your house.
- Taking a bath for the first time needs also to be captured forever. Decorate a beautiful picture with a bathtub or a rubber duckie made from paper. Maybe you could also draw some bubbles. Don't forget to describe how he or she enjoyed it.
- You should also make a page about your baby's first laugh, waving and conscious grip. Just match the decoration with the place or season. For summer dried and pressed flowers would be ideal. Also hand- or footprints make them great in a baby album.
- There is nothing cuter than a sleeping baby. Don't forget to make a photo thereof and paste it in the album. Decorate the page with a picture of a teddy bear or cuddly toy. If you cut it out of a photo and stick it onto the paper it will be remembered forever. Decorating the pages with fabric or with a moon and stars is another great option.
- The first meals should not be left out. Take some photos of your child eating. If you use baby food in jars you may remove the label and paste it in your album.
- Physical progress like the first head lifting, turning, crawling, sitting, walking should have its own pages as well.
- Trips like visiting the zoo or the swimming pool are also good occasions to create an extra page. Not only photos but also tickets may find a worthy place in your album. Creating a suitable decoration will not be difficult to find.
- The first celebrations like Christmas, New Year's Eve, Easter or Halloween are always great moments to remember. Creating a suitable decoration is absolutely easy. For Christmas you may paste in a fir branch or a picture of Santa Clause. Draw fireworks for New Year's Eve on the page. An Easter bunny is very nice for Easter and for Halloween you can paste in or draw a picture of a scary Halloween pumpkin.
There are many more ideas for pages you may create but those are some examples to begin your scrapbooking project.

A Baby is a Miracle
This little tiny baby
Was sent from God above
To fill our hearts with happiness
And touch our lives with love
He must have known
We'd give our all
And always do our best
To give our precious baby love
And be grateful and so blessed
Ten Little Fingers
Ten little fingers,
Ten little toes,
Two little eyes,
One little nose.
Put them together,
what have you got?
You've got me
and that's a lot!
You are My I love You
by Maryann K Cusimano
I am your parent, you are my child
I am your quiet place, you are my wild
I am your calm face, you are my giggle
I am your wait, you are my wiggle
I am your audience, you are my clown
I am your London Bridge, you are my falling down
I am your Carrot Sticks, you are my licorice
I am your dandelion, you are my first wish
I am your water wings, you are my deep
I am your open arms, you are my running leap
I am your way home, you are my new path
I am your dry towel, you are my wet bath
I am your dinner, you are my chocolate cake
I am your bedtime, you are my wide awake
I am your finish line, you are my race
I am your praying hands, you are my saving grace
I am your favourite book, you are my new lines
I am your nightlight, you are my sunshine
I am your lullaby, you are my peek-a-boo
I am your kiss goodnight, you are my I love you

A Wee Bit of Heaven
by Helen Steiner Rice
A wee bit of heaven
drifted down from above-
A handful of happiness,
a heart full of love.
The mystery of life,
so sacred and sweet-
The giver of joy
so deep and complete.
Precious and priceless,
so lovable, too-
The world's sweetest miracle,
baby, is you.
Your children are not your children.
They are the sons and daughters of Life's longing for itself.
They come through you but not from you,
And though they are with you yet they belong not to you.
You may give them your love but not your thoughts,
For they have their own thoughts.
You may house their bodies but not their souls,
For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow,
which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams.
You may strive to be like them,
but seek not to make them like you.
For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday.
You are the bows from which your children
as living arrows are sent forth.
The archer sees the mark upon the path of the infinite,
and He bends you with His might
that His arrows may go swift and far.
Let your bending in the archer's hand be for gladness;
For even as He loves the arrow that flies,
so He loves also the bow that is stable.
