I love to share my favorite ideas from around the web for people out there who like making things as much as I do!

Crochet a Watermelon Applique

You can make crochet watermelon slices quickly and easily. Here are the step-by-step written instructions for appliques and you'll also find the video that I made to walk you through the process.

I used the crocheted watermelon slices to decorate a knitted baby blanket for my granddaughter. They can also be added to scarves, purses, jeans, sweaters, vests, or whatever you can dream up. They are simple enough for beginners to crochet in only a few minutes.

  1. Begin with the pink or red yarn. Chain 4. Slip stitch into the first chain stitch to form a ring.
  2. Chain 3 to begin the next row. Double crochet around the ring 6 times.
  3. Chain 3 and turn the work. Double crochet 2 times in the first stitch. Continue around the previous row, double crocheting 2 times in each stitch.
  4. Repeat step 3.
  5. Change the yarn color to green. Chain 1 and turn the work. Working back across the row, single crochet one time in each stitch to create the watermelon rind. Tie off the yarn.

Here the watermelons are used to decorate a knitted blanket. Some people like to embroider black seeds on the watermelon slices with embroidery thread, or black yarn.
