How to Make a Baby Scrapbook

Updated on September 9, 2014

These baby scrapbook ideas will help you memorialize your first memories of baby by creating a scrapbook

The first year of a baby's life goes by so quickly it's almost like a dream. When I look back at the pictures of my children it's hard to even remember that they used to be that way and they're only 2 and 4 now. I want to hold onto and cherish every moment. A baby scrapbook is such a great and fun way to do just that. I love the thought that someday as adults my kids can look back and see what they were like as babies and also how much they were loved. A good baby scrapbook to me is like a love letter to your children.

Pick a Baby Scrapbook

The foundation of any scrapbook is of course the scrapbook itself. Scrapbooks range from basically an empty canvas which leaves more room for customization and creativity to kits that essentially have the work and decoration complete- you just supply the pictures. Either option is a beautiful way to memorialize those first wonderful days with your baby. Pick which one is right for you based on your time to devote to creating the scrapbook and your level of craftiness.

Simple Baby Scrapbook

A simple scrapbook will leave the most room for creativity to start with a blank slate and take it whatever direction you please. I personally like the ones with a slot for a photo on the front cover so you can tell what or who the book is about.

This particular scrapbook comes in a number of different colors from the standard pink or blue to other fun colors like purple or red. It accepts unlimited refills and the pages are photo safe and are acid and PVC free. It's a great because it's a customizable slate where you can take your vision whatever direction you'd like.

Complete Baby Scrapbook Kit

This darling scrapbook kit comes in either blue or pink. This book is great because it has everything you need included to make a beautiful scrapbook; all you need to supply is the pictures. Some important features include:

You can add additional pages if you need

Pages are photo safe, acid-free and PVC-free

Includes 3-D embelishments, stickers and captions

Decide upon your baby scrapbook theme

You can have a theme similar to a nursery: jungle, princess, zoo animals, sports or simply a color scheme like pink and brown for a girl. Once you know what direction you want to take the scrapbook it will help keep you focused and then the fun starts. Let your creative juices flow and do what you like. Use contrasting colors to make something pop. Use stickers, ribbons and embellishments to jazz up a page. You can spend literally hours on one page trying to get it just right or you can breeze through. It all depends on you.

Some fun ideas to make it more special and particular to baby are:

1. Use a stamp print of baby's hand and/or foot print

2. Include memos and blurbs about your memories of specific pictures

3. Paste in a locket of baby's hair

4. Hospital Id's are fun to glue onto a page

5. Make sure to include pictures of yourself and other members of the family holding baby

6. Have family members sign a page welcoming baby sort of like a yearbook

There are so many different directions you can take it. Have fun with it!

Fun extras to jazz up a scrapbook page

These details can add just the right finishing touch to your baby scrapbook.

You remind me so much of my niece and the way she is as a mother and devoted wife. I inherited my mothers scrap book that my niece put together she also has some of her children when they were babies. There are a lot of details and it is a lot of work but you can do so much when you have the know how and the imagination to go with it, this is a great help to many of us that wouldn't even know where to begin. Also they make good gifts too.

My kids and I scrapbooked our entire year two years ago. It's kind of outside the box. I refer to most of our pages as deranged junior high art projects. But it was a lot of fun.

I think a baby scrapbook is a lovely idea, and well worth the effort, and items other than photographs make it even more special. My mom made a book with a collection of my birthday cards from 1-8 years old, I did enjoy looking at it, and adding the cards year by year when I was old enough to help.

A beautiful idea, so many things can be preserved in the baby scrapbook, not just the snaps.

Great idea for a lens. Rocket Squid tip: Your "Baby Toes" poster from AllPosters should be a bit bigger and you should put a text line in to say it's a poster available from AllPosters.

Always a great idea. Nice opening image, but need to make it 250x250 - must be the size of intro photo... easy to fix. Otherwise, very well done! ;-)
