Being a Pirate
We could be forgiven for thinking that a pirates life was an exciting and joyful one. After all, most films portray pirates as living the high life, drinking rum and visiting exotic places. But the fact is that being a pirate was a hazardous occupation. Even the most famous of pirates had only a few years of activity. Life at sea could be monotonous, with days or weeks of inactivity followed by rough seas and storms. Living conditions on board ships could be quite appalling with shortages of food and hygiene almost non existent. Fights were commonplace and even the smallest of injuries could prove fatal at a time when medical advances were quite primitive. If you were unfortunate enough to be captured, then your fate as a pirate was not a great one, most likely you would have faced the hangman's noose.picture sourced from Wikipedia the free encyclopedia

It is commonly understood that Pirates loved treasure and that they would often bury there ill-gotten gains in treasure chests and then bury it somewhere secluded and safe.
But in reality, it more likely that pirates would either squander there loot or take cargo from other ships that they would need. Ships of the day would carry everyday things like food, soap, clothes and it was often these things that pirates would steal.picture sourced from Wikipedia the free encyclopedia
