Crochet This Very Easy Cover To Protect Your iPad!

The large case with the keyboard for my iPad was a bit cumbersome for me, so I took the iPad out of it. Then it felt so unprotected, I immediately designed a cover for it!

Now you can crochet one too in your favorite color(s) of worsted weight yarn! With the wear this cover will get, you'll probably want to choose a washable yarn. For my cover, I chose Bernat CottonTots yarn in pink variegated and white. Love it!

Complete instructions are below. Hope you enjoy making several for yourself and for gifts!

What You Will Need

2 balls or skeins of worsted weight yarn (i.e.Bernat CottonTots)

(The example is crocheted with two strands of Bernat CottonTots held together)

Crochet hook size H or preferred size

How To Make It

Holding two strands of yarn together, Chain 25, or number required to cover the width of your iPad plus 1/2 inch. Must end in an odd number.

Row 1

SC in first ch, *skip 1 chain, SC in next chain. Repeat from * across. Ch 1, turn.

Row 2

SC in first space adjacent to your ch 1. *Ch 1, skip next SC, SC in next ch 1 space. Repeat from * across. Ch 1, turn.

Now check your measurement - your piece should measure the width of your iPad plus 1/2 inch. If it is too big, try a size smaller hook. If it's too small, size up on your hook.

Repeat Row 2 until your piece measures twice the height of your iPad plus 1/2 inch. Do not fasten off.

ENVELOPE FLAP:

Crochet an addiitional 3 inches in pattern.

FINISHING

Fold cover so that iPad fits comfortably inside it. Slip stitch side seams. You may either stitch the sides of the envelope flap in place on the outside so it works like a pillowcase cover, OR you can leave the flap free and just tuck it in. OR, you can leave it free and attach a piece of sew-on Velcro to the center underside of the flap and attach the corresponding piece to the cover so you can have a Velcro closure. It's up to you!

I opted for the open flap, just tucking it inside. It works great!

A Word About Yarn Selection...

You might not want to choose a yarn that has metallic or other hard flecks, etc. in it because of the possibility of its scratching your iPad. Keep it soft, and preferably choose a yarn that is not "hairy" or fuzzy. You don't want tiny fibers sneaking their way into your iPad.
