Knifty Knitter Adult Hat Loom

I love to share my favorite patterns on the web for people out there who like making things as much as I do!

The Provo Craft Knifty Knitter Adult Hat Loom

The first set of knitting looms that I bought in 2008 were the Knifty Knitter brand by Provo Craft. After knitting for a while, I soon learned that there are many different brands, but knitters tend to refer to them all as "Knifty Knitters," or "KK" looms. I began to publish patterns and pattern collections online for other people that used these looms. As I did so, I became very aware of the fact that many people were mixing up the brands and thinking that they had the KK looms when the did not. Because they are often referred to by color, using a different brand can often mess up a pattern completely. In 2011, I began selling this brand of loom online at Amazon and eBay. One of the things I've learned as a retailer is that there is a special loom just for adult hats! Who knew? It's from Provo Craft (PC), of course, so it truly is the Knifty Knitter brand. It doesn't come with the round set. It's only sold by itself. There is also a small booklet of patterns just for it. You can find more information about each below.

Adult Hat Loom

The hat loom is 10 1/4 inches. In comparison to the round looms sold in the set, it's slightly smaller than the extra large, yellow and a bit bigger than the large, green round loom. The pegs on this hat loom are also closer together than the pegs on the other round looms.

This hat loom can only be purchased individually. It's not sold as part of any set. If you have used the extra large, or large, round looms and felt the pegs were spaced too far apart, consider this loom instead. You can purchase it from several sources online including Amazon and eBay.

You can buy these adult hat looms individually from They come with instructions, a knitting hook and a yarn needle.

Buy It at

You won't find the adult hat loom as part of a set. You can only buy it individually. Many people like to knit on this loom because the pegs are closer together than they are on the other round looms.

Comparison Chart

XL Round Loom from the Set - 11 inches wide, 41 pegs

Hat Loom (Sold Individually) - 10 inches wide, 48 pegs

L Round Loom from the Set - 9¼ inches wide, 36 pegs

This hat loom can be used to make hats for yourself, or someone special. I find that they make great Christmas gifts. It can also be used to make hats as a service project. Consider giving the hats to Emily's Hats for Hope Initiative. Emily has been working hard to ensure everyone has a hat to stay warm. Emily was in high school when she created her first group that eventually went nationwide. You can also donate hats to a local goodwill organization, a homeless shelter, or donate them to victims of domestic violence.

Newly Crafted Stitch for Hats from the Forums

Have you heard about the figure 8 stitch for the round loom? It's different than the traditional figure 8 done on the long looms. The figure 8 for the round looms makes an interesting knit pattern that many loom knitters find perfect for hats. Although I'm not crazy about the designer reusing the name of a stitch that already existed to describe a new and completely different stitch, it is fun to use. Check out this video explaining how to do the stitch and make your own.

"Good recap of all the great stats of the last century in the video, touhgh I wish there was more scoping out of upcoming innovation."A key aspect missed by this talk is that the effective human population of the earth is about to explode.I took Ray Kurzweil's estimates the amount of computer power (in instructions per second) per $1000, and historical and projected estimates of the number of personal computers sold in the world. I compared that to the computing power of a human brain, which I took as 20 quadrillion operations per second (20 petaflops). From the graph, only one human brain equivalent (HBE) was added in 1996. And even in 2012, only about 100,000 HBEs will be added. But in 2024, 1 billion HBEs will be added. And in 2032, 1 TRILLION human brain equivalents will added. (In that single year!)Arnold Kling and I predicted that spectacular economic growth would result from computer intelligence:But I think even our estimates were low. I now expect world per-capita GDP growth rates above 10 percent per year even by the 2030s.

I started with Pimsleur then moved to Assimil which suits me ralley well it seems to stick in my head much easier. I am so impressed with Assimil that I have got some other Assimil books ready to go after I get comfortable with Chinese! In addition to Assimil i am on Shared talk every day if I can though some days it just doesn't flow for me but when I get a partner I can flow with its ralley useful plus I have a local close to me which I meet for 2 hours every week. I try to talk for as long as i can with no English and check new meanings of words in Chinese. If I watch movies I watch Mandarin versions with subtitles and have also started using Chinesepod. So very similar to you. Another resource you might find interesting is Serge melnyks podcasts.Best wishes to you for the challenge.Simon
