DIY Lemon & Honey Sugar Lip Scrub

Updated on August 20, 2013

Your lips will love it!

Summer's slowly coming to an end and I am sure your lips enjoyed it much! But as fall and winter is drawing near your lips will be needing more attention and care than before and it's better to start early than late.

Sugar lip scrubs have become really popular over the years and why wouldn't they? They are a sweet way to get rid all of the dead cells from your lips (something I used to do with an extra toothbrush). I've seen them in lots of stores now, mostly the ones with natural cosmetics but as they are so easy to make you should try making your own at home, chances are you already have all the necessary ingredients at your house!

Let's make it!

Here's what you need;

2 tbs of sugar - white or brown whichever you prefer 1 tbs of olive oil - if possible get the homemade one, it's way, WAY better than regular store bought 1/2 tbs honey a few drops of lemon drops food coloring optional

  1. Add 2 tablespoons of sugar into a bowl (or a cup), while stirring slowly add one (and a half if needed) tablespoon of olive oil. Mix it well!
  2. Add half a tablespoon of honey and a few drops of lemon juice. Mix, mix, mix!
  3. If you like you can also add some food coloring, I didn't as I like the yellowish brown color of my scrub.

Let your lips enjoy!

Apply, scrub, taste a bit ;), enjoy your full and soft lips!

As I am using a home made (not by me by the way) olive oil which does have a stronger scent than the store bough this is the dominant scent in my mixture, but believe me the home-made one smells beyond delicious so it's a pleasant scent. There's a gentle note of honey and lemon too so I do have the urge to dip my fingers into the scrub and slowly (well quite fast actually) eat it - be advised this thing is super addictive! Yum.

You apply the scrub with your finger and can either spread it by rubbing your lips together as you would with applying your lipstick or you can smear it all over with your fingers.Rub your lips for a while so the scrub does it's work with removing all those skin cells which have already served their purpose. You can wash the scrub off with water or just lick it (no objections here!) and you will be left with refreshed, healthy looking lips.

Ready to share the kisses! ***

Put it into an airtight container!

All ingredients used are durable so you will have your scrub for days if you place it into an airtight container.

For tasty treats and homemade cosmetics

Food colourings are one of those things that are always good to have at home as you never know when you are going to need them! They will come in handy for making those Christmas cookies you will share with your friends, they will add a dash of color to your home-made body products and they can even be used to help you make your own face paint!

I remember how expensive these were when I was a kid and my mother refused to buy them (we used beets juice to color things red or pink if it was necessary - worked great by the way) but today these are easily affordable so having an assortment of your favourite colors is a must. You never know when you will get the desire to make a rainbow cake.

Experiment with your scrub!

Why not add a dash of vanilla extract?

Or maybe some cocoa?

Mix in food flavouring and get your favourite tastes!

Sky is the limit!

Will you be making your own? - Or have you ever made a your own body products at home?

I enjoyed reading this easy lip scrub, it looks very easy to make, something I have never done before because it is one thing I don't seem to have a problem with.

I may try this one, looks like it tastes nice.

      Thanks for sharing.
