Love My Fingerless Gloves

Updated on February 7, 2014

Fingerless Gloves: The Useful Fashion Accessory

I'm making Fingerless Gloves. And wearing them. Even got Steve to wear a pair. The grandkids like them. My daughter has a pair. I found a LOT of cool patterns on the internet for more fingerless gloves that I want to try.

Maybe you thought about trying a pair. Or maybe you want an extra. They're so easy to make. Come on in and have a look. I think you'll be glad you did.

Fingerless gloves, for men, women, teens or children, are so "handy." The hands are kept warm while the fingers can still function.

I keep a pair in my desk at the office. Sometimes it does get a tad bit chilly in there. With the fingers unencumbered, I'm still able to work with the computer, do filing, or whatever else my job requires.

Since I make my own, I can have any type or color of yarn, add charms (or not), and make matching hats and scarves. I can have some which match or coordinate with my coat, jackets, sweaters, shirts, skirts or pants. They can be delicate and lacy or beefed up for heavy duty usage.

I made a manlier version for Steve (my super-handsome husband) which he likes for driving. With all the snow and cold weather we've been getting here in Oklahoma, that steering wheel gets mighty cold.

Make Your Own Fingerless Gloves

Not by cutting the fingertips off of your regular gloves.

The crochet pattern I use to make fingerless gloves is slightly modified from one I found in a crochet magazine. The article called for cotton worsted weight yarn to make bed gloves. They were meant to be worn during the night after lavishly covering the hands with hand lotion or cream. I liked them so much, I made more - lots and lots more. Only I changed from cotton to acrylic. And made them a little larger. Sometimes I make them with worsted weight (heavy), sometimes with sport weight (medium). The medium weight yarns are good for typing. I want to try making some in baby yarn (light weight). I think that would give the gloves a nice dressy look.

And my Men's Fingerless Gloves Model

Steve's such a good sport. He'll go along with just about anything. As long as it's not modeling underwear. Says he's not going to do that at his age. Maybe 25 years ago.

I am Steve's biggest fan. He is my biggest supporter. He's very good natured about going along with my projects. This happens to be one he can actually use. I just made an adjustment in the length and the width and omitted the little ruffle at the fingers. Now he has his own pair of fingerless gloves.

Yes, I used to use these gloves a lot, when I was doing general veterinary practice in the cold weather. They're brilliant.

Gorgeous. I love the little jewel sewn on. I will have to try that. I suffer from raynaud's syndrome so my hands often get very cold while I work online. These might help yet still provide the mobility to type.

I love my fingerless gloves when it is cold. Even when it is not, arthritis sometimes makes my hands ache under air conditioning, and the fingerless gloves are good for that, too. They make it possible to keep working. Great lens!

Yes! I love fingerless gloves. The pairs I used this past winter had a button flap for both the fingers and the thumb. They were wonderful. I love the freedom! :)

Oh I shall be featuring this lens of yours too. I think that fingerless gloves are very useful for those who work in Drive-Thru window jobs. (Especially here in Canada, in the winter. I always feel sorry for the kids working at drive thru windows because they cannot 'drop' money, they usually don't wear any gloves).

i love love LOVE fingerless gloves!!! my sister got me a pair for christmas that had a button hook flap so you have the option of covering your fingers. i haven't told her yet, but i gave them to a homeless man in indianapolis who looked like he was freezing his butt off.... anyway, i need to learn how to crochet. do you crochet in the cold with your fingerless gloves? :) great lens, entertaining AND informative!

I've been a fingerless glove devotee for many years. Computer rooms tend to be chilly and I get cold easily. As you mentioned, I can still type while wearing fingerless gloves!

Glittens (fingerless glove / mitten hybrids) are great for outdoor photography in winter...

@Tarra99: I make most of these to go with my "Hats For Homeless" project. When anyone asks for a pair I make them but seldom sell them. Unless someone should want like a hundred pairs, then I would have to make it a selling transaction. But I just don't really see that happening.
