Making a Teacup Pin Cushion

Updated on January 8, 2016

Teacup Pin Cushion Crafts

Hve you ever wondered what to do with those mismatched and odd teacups that eventually seem to creep into everyone's kitchen cupboards over the years?

Well why not take the time to convert them into something useful, decorative and even saleable. These sewing instructions, knitting and crochet plans will enable you to do just that - you can even make a Teacup Pin Cushion without having to sew.

Each one you make will be unique, distinctive and a great craft idea for that unusual handmade gift.

I first came across a teacup pincushion as a young lad. Visits to my Nan would nearly always find me searching among her sewing materials box. I was always intrigued by the sheer variety of item stored here - buttons, sewing thread, thimbles, lace edging, bobbins, hatpins, you name it - if an item was needed for some project or other, then it was always there waiting. Among the sewing collection were tiny little china cups, filled with padding and packed tight with hatpins. I never forgot them.

A good idea for those lonely pieces that no longer fit into a tea set.

I love this idea! Can't wait to make one. I have one of those that fits onto your wrist, but it is slowly falling apart. Time for a new one.

I've made teacup pincushions for gifts but didn't include a saucer. That's a great idea. Thanks!

Returning to smile at your teacup pin cushions, they are so nostalgic. I remember growing up when all the older ladies seemed to have a pin cushion on display to be close at hand for those quick repairs.

Really cute idea. I'm adding your lens to my new lens on teacup showers. It answers the question of how our grandmothers got all those mismatched teacups.

How adorable! This is a wonderful way to display those odd tea cups and saucers and make them functional. I love how the saucer can be used for those buttons and other little things that seem to be set down somewhere and then the hunt begins. Very sweet and practical!
