Celebrate March with crafts, coloring pages, online games, puzzles and quizzes while you listen to a Johnny Appleseed song.

I also have some fun outdoor activities for children, including preschoolers, toddlers and older children to ring in the beginning of spring.

Ready for some March fun? I have ideas for both home and the classroom. Let's get started!

Your Favorite Seuss (Classic Seuss)
Your Favorite Seuss (Classic Seuss)

Dr. Suess books have been delighting children for years. March 2 is Dr. Suess Day. I have some fun crafts for kids to do below. In need of some Dr. Suess books? This collection has such classics as "The Cat in the Hat," "Green Eggs and Ham" and"The Lorax"

Have Play-Doh? Kids can use it to make their own Green Eggs and Ham.

Barbie Day

Barbie made her debut on March 9 1959. If you have girls who love Barbie, why not take this day to celebrate? Have a Barbie dress up contest followed by a Barbie fashion show.

A fun way to celebrate is to have a Barbie tea party. Have a setting for each girl and their dolls. Serve juice with healthy snacks. Afterwards, put on a Barbie movie or design some Barbie dresses. I have a craft kit below that girls will have so much fun with.

With this craft kit you get five plain dresses to decorate with sequins, bows, glitter, flowers and more. It's a fun way to be creative and add some outfits to Barbie's closet.

Johnny Appleseed Day - March 11 Holiday

Johnny Appleseed was an American pioneer who traveled around the United States planting apple trees. He did this to help the pioneers. He also sold and gave away apple trees.

To celebrate this day, be sure to serve something made from apples. How about some applesauce or apple muffins? You can incorporate apples into school lunches or make a yummy apple dessert. Be sure to have an apple bobbing contest as well. Kids always have fun with those.

Outdoor March Activities

Plastic Dinosaur
Plastic Dinosaur

In many areas, March is a good time to get the kids outdoors as the weather has started to warm up after winter. In honor of St. Patrick's Day, why not go on a green walk? Take a walk around the neighborhood and see how many green things you can find.

Of course they'll be leaves on the trees and green lawn, but what else can you find? Maybe a green mailbox or a green garden decoration? You'll be surprised at how many green things you can see.

Have a dinosaur dig. I first saw this in action at Walk Disney World. My kids couldn't get enough digging. To do this at home, bury some plastic dinosaur skeletons and let kids find and dig them up.

Did you know that March 20 is Extraterrestrials Abduction Day? Give kids some sidewalk chalk and let then draw aliens. They can even create a story about the alien they drew.

March 20 is Extraterrestrial Abductions Day. Whether you believe in aliens or not, it can really spark the imagination of kids wondering if there is life on other planets. Here are some fun alien craft projects for kids to do during the day. At night, if the skies are clear, pull out the binoculars and look for UFOs in the sky.

Barnum and Bailey Day

Celebrate Barnum and Bailey Day by having kids perform circus acts. This is a great way to stimulate the imagination. You could have circus clowns, a lion and lion tamer, tightrope walkers, etc. It's all up to the kids' imagination.

Do something with a pencil to celebrate this holiday. Write a story or a poem. Use a pencil to make a drawing. Color a coloring page with colored pencils instead of crayons.

My son's birthday is March 22, so that's always a highlight. Of course this year he gets his learner's permit, so the latter part of March will be filled with terror for me as I teach him to drive.

Plenty to keep the kids (and parents) busy during March then. I never even knew about Barbie day! Might give that one a miss in our house.
