Martha Stewart Crafts Knit & Weave Loom Kit Review

Updated on May 10, 2013

Martha Stewart Loom

This page reviews the Martha Stewart Knit and Weave Loom Kit. I've covered all the pros and cons of the product as well as providing some handy hints and tips to get you started with loom knitting.

I've also included some great videos that explain exactly how to get the best out of the loom knitting kit. There's a whole host of projects that you can make with this product, I've given you some ideas to get you started.

A quick overview of the Martha Stewart knitting loom

The knitting loom kit is made from strong, good quality plastic which looks like it will last for a long time. When putting the loom together, all the pegs fit together securely and there is very little movement in the pieces which makes the loom so much easier to use than other products.

The Martha Stewart knitting loom allows you to set up the product in lots of different configurations. This means that you can make a number of different items on the loom including scarves, socks, hats etc.

It's really easy to get started with this knitting loom. All you need is some yarn, scissors and the crochet hook and yarn needles that are included within the pack. You do not need to use Martha Stewart yarn with this loom kit.

Tips and tricks for using the knitting loom kit

I've discovered quite a few hints and tips for using this knitting loom kit, so I thought I would share some with you.

I have had some difficulty in using the loom hook included in the pack. I have found that you can easily make a suitable hook from an old wire coat hanger. Alternatively you may find it easier to use an extra large crochet hook which you should be able to buy for a couple of dollars.

Once you have inserted the pegs into the loom, you may find that they move around. They do not tend to come loose from the Martha Stewart loom though. I'm always losing things and bought a set of zipper freezer bags in order to keep all the pegs together. If you can find the loom on sale, it may be worth buying a second one so that you have a supply of spare parts.

You do not need to use Martha Stewart yarns with this loom kit. You can experiment with different yarns by making small swatch patches. You should soon work out which yarns work best in each project.

The knitting loom is not really meant to be used as a hand held tool. It tends to work much better if you use it on a flat surface.

Lack of instructions for the Martha Stewart looms

I have found that the instructions included in the knitting loom kit are quite sparse. The instruction booklet is printed in high quality but it doesn't include as much detail as I would like. The booklet only includes three different basic knitting loom patterns, there is a lot more that you can do with this kit!

I also found the instructions a bit confusing. I found that the YouTube videos provided by the manufacturer Lion Brand to be much easier to follow. I've included a selection of the videos below so that you can check them out.

Projects for you to make on the Martha Stewart knitting loom

There are lots of different projects that you can make on a knitting or weaving loom. Although the instructions only include a couple of basic projects, there are tons out there that you can make.

A quick search on YouTube will show you the variety of items that you can make. YouTube is a great place for finding instructional videos for this loom kit. You will find videos that show you how to make a range of scarves, socks, hats etc.

There is also a massive selection of loom knitting books available on Amazon. I've listed a few below which include some great ideas for you to get started with.

Products to use alongside the Lion Brand Martha Stewart loom

I've listed a couple of books that you may find useful to use with the Lion Brand Martha Stewart loom. I've also included some details of an alternative loom if you don't like the sound of the Martha Stewart knitting loom and fancy buying a different one.

Lion brand amazing yarn

I've come across a couple of yarns which I think would be great for using with the martha stewart loom. One is lion brand amazing yarn. This is a lightweight yarn which is very soft and knits up in a tweed pattern.

Another yarn I loved using with the loom was lion brand cotton ease. Unfortunately, the yarn is now out of production but you never know, you might find some if you search for lion brand cotton ease yarn on ebay!
