MOSA - MUSEUM OF SQUID ART

Updated on March 3, 2013

MOSA - Museum Of Squid Art

About 12 years ago I painted a giant tentacled beast for a Walt Disney project called Animal Kingdom in Orlando, Florida. It was about 12 feet wide and 7 feet tall and I painted it on 3/4 inch steel cut-out shape for a huge sign at the front gate. It was one of several wild animals that my artist friend Gary Thomas and I painted for this project. This function of this lens is to show some serious squid art. I will be adding more as I find them, so it will probably never be finished........

I have back links to the artist's sites for further investigation.

Sixty Foot Squid Painting

Printmakers Todd Freeman and Meg Perec of Freeman & Perec recently created "Sixty Foot Ghost", a site specific art installation that recreates a 60′ giant squid. The project was created for ArtPrize 2009 and was on display at 47 Commerce SW in Grand Rapids, MI. (Click on the photo to go to their site)

Robo-Squid by JohnArtGuy

Great piece of art, but couldn't locate the artist - just the site. (click on photo)

Karyna Amador's "Squid Print"

The artist is Karyna Amador, the owner, designer and one woman show behind Paper Squid, her stationery and design shop featuring eco-friendly and charming paper goods. Based in Miami, Florida, she is passionate about design and her shop, bred both out of love and the need for a change.......(click on art to read more and to find out more about her printing technique)

Giant Squid Kinetic Sculpture

This Giant Squid is created from large objects found in the junkyard by designer Nemo Gould. The motor connected recycled kinetic sculpture has movable tentacles that breathe life into it.

Giant Crocheted Squid by Cathy McMurray

CATHY MCMURRAY

"I'm an artist living in beautiful Portland, Oregon. I used to teach art, and then I opened a shop a few years ago that carried art. Now my days are filled with creating my own art. I look forward to sharing my ideas, inspirations, and findings with you." (click on photo to see more about Cathy)

GIANT OCTOPUS - by John N. Stewart (MOSA founder and lens author)

This is the painting that I talked about in the intro for this lens. After painting it in acrylic, it was coated with an epoxy clear coat for enduring the frequent rains in Orlando.

Old Squid Engraving

Artist unknown. This is an old engraving of some rather plump squiddi.

Some of this stuff is seriously creepy and some of it is absolutely stunning. I imagine much like the creature itself. Your Octopus is awesome by the way. This is a great lens. Very nicely done. :)
