My New Necktie Bracelet Design - A Quick & Easy Project

Updated on June 28, 2014

Necktie Cuff Bracelet with a Triglide

This is my new bracelet design! There are tons of tutorials and pictures online for cuff bracelet designs using upcycled neckties, and I really like all of them. But I wanted to add my own touch to cuff bracelets with a triglide, which is a fancy name for the very simplest of belt buckles. A triglide adds a little shine to a fun silk pattern.

Best of all, these bracelets cost next to nothing in time - they are so easy to make, I made four in less than an hour - or money - only about $3-5 to create, depending on what you spend for your ties. Also, you only use the last 10 inches or so of the length of the tie, so you have the rest of the silk to play with for other crafty projects. These bracelets make great stocking stuffers!

All photos on this page are my own.

Materials and Tools

  • 1 necktie you're ready to upcycle
  • 1 triglide
  • Sewing thread to match or complement the tie
  • Scissors
  • Needle and straight pin
  • Tape measure

Order Triglides in Different Sizes and Metals

The narrow end of most neckties is about 1.25 inches wide. The 1-inch triglide is the perfect size, because the 1-inch is measured just across the flat side, and the full width (with the rounded ends) is about 1.25 inch. This fits your necktie perfectly. I was very pleased with this product. The metal triglides are silver and were completely smooth, very important so as not to snag any of the silk fibers.

In case you would like to use a wider part of the tie, or would like to use this design to create a belt from a necktie, you'll want a wider triglide like this 1.5-inch or even a 2-inch.
