Turn Paper into a Heart Chain or Heart Garland

With just some paper, staples and string you can easily create a garland or chain of paper hearts to use for a special occasion.

In looking for a way to make a fast and easy Valentine craft, I discovered several different version of paper crafts using hearts that can be turned into garlands, chains and even heart ornaments.

The paper heart crafts can be made by children at school or clubs as a quick way to make a Valentine's Day craft for decorating taking home for Valentine's Day.

These paper heart chains and handing hearts can be used as festive decorations for Valentine's Day events, weddings and baby showers, any time you might want to decorate with hearts.

A paper heart garland can be made in just a few minutes using strips of paper and a stapler. Once you figure out the trick to putting the strips together it is simple to make a long chain of paper hearts

Start with your paper of choice (construction, cardstock, colored or recycled), then cut strips and staple them together. It is an easy project for kids or a great last minute Valentine's Day decoration.

Craft Time

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Total Time: 10 - 15 minutes

Ingredients

  • Paper - Construction or Cardstock or Colored
  • Paper Cutter or Scissors
  • Ruler
  • Stapler with Staples

Instructions

  1. 1. Cut paper into 1 inch by 4 inch strips.
  2. 2. Staple one end of the strip together.
  3. 3. Open up the strips and join them at the bottom into a heart shape.
  4. 4. BEFORE you staple, add another cut strip on the outside edge of the first strips.
  5. Then staple through all four layers.
  6. 5. Keep adding more strips to reach the desired length.
  7. 6. At the last heart, staple the final two strips together.

Make an Easy Paper Heart Chain

A very easy way to make a paper heart chain using folded strips of paper in the colors of your choice. This is a quick easy project for school crafts or clubs and for Valentine's Day.

You could even recycle paper and use old magazines, books or brown paper bags to make these paper heart chains.

Craft Time

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Total Time: 10 - 15 minutes

Ingredients

  • Paper - Construction or Cardstock or Colored
  • Paper Cutter or Scissors
  • Ruler
  • Stapler with Staples
  • Glue Dots

Instructions

  1. 1. Fold the paper in half.
  2. 2. Cut into 1 inch x 4.25 inch strips (or modify depending on the desired size)
  3. With the fold, these strips end up being 1 inch x 8.5 inches.
  4. 3. Fold paper into a heart shape.
  5. 4. Staple the ends together.
  6. 5. Take another piece of paper, link through the first heart and staple.
  7. 6. Keep adding more links until a desired length is reached.
  8. Note: If you are a crafting perfectionist like myself, make sure you add the links in the same direction, so your chain of hearts orient the same way.

Make a Paper Heart String

These strings of paper hearts are another simple Valentine's Day or any day project.

Just cut up some hearts and sew them on a string. You can vary the size of the hearts, or even mix up several different sizes.

Craft Time

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Total Time: 10 - 15 minutes


Ingredients

  • Paper - Construction or Cardstock
  • Heart Template
  • Scissors
  • Heart Punch
  • Thread or String
  • Sewing Machine or Needle

Instructions

  1. 1. Punch or cut hearts out of paper at desired size.
  2. 2. Stitch the hearts together using thread on a sewing machine, or hand stitch using thread, yarn or twine.
  3. 3. If using twine or yarn, you might want to punch small holes in the hearts to make it easier to sew.
  4. 4. Keep adding hearts to reach the desired length.
  5. To simplify this, instead of using paper hearts, use self sticking foam hearts and stick two together on a string.
