47 Patriotic Craft Ideas: 4th of July and Memorial Day

Making patriotic crafts to celebrate the 4th of July and Memorial Day is one way to show your love of country. The red, white and blue colors that we associate with patriotic holidays, is also appropriate for summer decor.

For this article I searched the web to find patriotic crafts that had pictures and directions. You'll find the name and address of the site that features the 4th of July and Memorial Day crafts included.

1. Burlap Flags Banner

A super easy banner to display on all of our patriotic holidays. Find the tutorial for making this beautiful, burlap banner at Uncommon Designs.

2. Wood Flag Wreath

I wonder if it would work to use paint stir sticks to make the pallet for this wreath. The five gallon sized stir sticks should be about the right size. Directions for this project are found at A Diamond in the Stuff.

3. Flag Table Runner

Using a bamboo table runner worked perfectly to make this outstanding patriotic table covering. Check the Dollar Store for an inexpensive runner. You'll find all the directions, with pictures, at Bliss Boom Blog.

4. Flag Luminaries

When you see how easily these luminaries are to make, and how inexpensive they are to make, you'll find many ways to use them. Go to Keep Calm and Decorate and be ready to craft! I love these, and they can be used inside or outside.

5. USA Blocks

It will be easy to find a place to display these patriotic blocks. On a shelf, the mantel or even as a centerpiece you'll receive all sorts of compliments on your crafting abilities. Find the tutorial for making these blocks at Inspiring Creations.

6. Star and Stripes

Another outstanding project that is perfect when decorating for all the patriotic holidays. This would be beautiful on a mantel or as patio decor. Go to Scavenger Chic for the tutorial. Woodworkers will find this an easy project.

7. 3-D Patriotic Stars

I love these patriotic stars. I made some using old calendar pages, and they turned out beautifully. I used small pins to hang them on my office wall. Find the tutorial for making 3-D stars at Ribbons & Glue.

8. DIY Solar Light Lamp

Imagine your patio with a couple of these beautiful lamps enhancing it. Make the solar lamp using an inexpensive garden solar light. Easy, short, picture tutorial is found at House Interior Design.

9. Firecracker Tie-dye T-shirt

I think this would be a fun project to do with a group of kids anticipating a group activity, like a baseball game, on the 4th of July. It would be a nice team shirt. Go to I Love To Create to see how easy it is to make this firecracker tie dye shirt.

10. Patriotic Shoes

What could be more fun than having red, white and blue shoes to go with your 4th of July outfit? And to think that you can make them for every member of the family. This great summer project has an outstanding tutorial at Pretty Providence.

11. 4 X 4 Firecracker Decor

Although we usually think of firecrackers or fireworks as only particular patriotic dates, the fact is that these type crafts can be used as summer long outdoor decorations. 12. Burlap Flag Pillow

You could say that burlap is one of the things associated with being American. You know, like apple pie? This flag themed burlap pillow perfect for decorating for the 4th of July or Memorial day. Find the tutorial for the burlap flag pillow at Simply Kierste.

If you are planning a patriotic themed party these luminaries are just the thing to light the path to your home. Aunt Peaches is the place to find the tutorial for making these patriotic luminaries.

14. Patriotic Button Art

This is such a very simple craft, but notice how nice it looks. A project that isn't for just the 4th of July. You'll find all the instructions you'll need to make this button art at Before It's News.

15. Clothes Pin Flag Wreath

This looks like a really fun craft to do with the kids. And it'll look great hanging on your wall or door. Find the tutorial at Simplemost.

16. Patriotic Wreath Pin

I really like this pin. Go to The Scrap Shoppe for the instructions on making this patriotic wreath pin. Seems to me this would be a nice pin or hair accessory done in school colors.

17. Patriotic Lantern

These lanterns would be easy to make and would be a great way to decorate for your holiday party or patio party. The directions can be found at the Martha Stewart site.

18. Jar Flats Mobile

In the directions, this mobile uses tin can tops, but I think I would use jar flats instead. Find the directions at Crafts-For-All-Seasons.

19. Liberty Stakes

Dress up your garden or flower beds with written words of patriotism. The directions for this project can be found at Holiday Crafts and Creations.

20. Star Bouquet

If you need to make decorations for a number of tables, this would be an outstanding one. You'll find the instructions for this project at Favecrafts.

21. Pledge of Allegiance Printable

Have you ever searched for a printable Pledge of Allegiance to use in a home or classroom project? This beautiful example is included, with the tutorial, at On Sutton Place.

22. Pinwheels

      I'm sorry to say that the site which had the firework stakes is no longer available. I did find one which is very similar to it and have added it as a replacement. I hope you like this one also.
