Teach Peace with Crafts

Peace crafts and art themes are popular in all cultures throughout the world. Children, tweens, teens, adults and seniors alike appreciate the symbols of peace and wear clothing, jewelry and badges adorned with peace symbols. Teaching peace helps all and harms none. We can use these arts and crafts to supplement the lessons of living a peaceful life.

Political campaigns and world leaders promote action and encourage people to work together for a common cause. Sharing the quest and hope for world peace is universal. I firmly believe that today more than ever we must teach the world's children that living without violence is essential.

Make Peace Not War. Teach Peace.

Peace Arts & Crafts - Crafts with PEACE Themes

Crafts with a peace theme for children and adults. Use these peace arts and crafts projects as part of a peace day learning activity or group project.

My biggest peace craft project is a five-foot diameter holiday wreath that forms a peace sign with lights - we hang this giant peace sign on the outside of our home and light it up every night for the Advent season.

I'd Rather Teach Peace
I'd Rather Teach Peace

When invited to teach a writing course at the School Without Walls, Washington Post columnist Colman McCarthy responded with the title of this book - I'd Rather Teach Peace.

That was in 1982. From that simple beginning this respected journalist took his lessons of peace to all sorts of schools in the US, giving up his job as a columnist to encourage children to explore the issues and think creatively about peace.

Rave reviews applaud this book, from a broad spectrum of readers ranging from former military officers and professional educators, to every day folks, all recommending this slim but powerful book to "everyone in the world."

Imagine ... Peace

All We Are Saying Is Give Peace a Chance

John Lennon and Yoko Ono campaigned for peace and human rights, using art as the medium to communicate their message. John's lyrics (poetry) often included peace messages:

Imagine there's no heaven, it's easy if you try

No people below us, above it's only sky

Imagine all the people living for today

Imagine there's no countries, it isn't hard to do

No need to kill or die for and no religions, too

Imagine all the people living life in peace ...

Imagine was recorded and performed live numerous times, as was another famous Lennon anti-war song, Give Peace a Chance.

The Peace Sign

Peace symbols and icons

Peace symbols are universal glyphs and images - peace icons - made easily recognizable through the antiwar movement or pop culture. Many different symbols for ending conflict are recognized around the world. The most familiar universal icons are a dove, an olive branch, a broken weapon and the graphic used originally by the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament ("the round peace symbol").

Although 40 years have passed since the 1969 march on Washington, DC, the peace symbol remains a popular icon in world cultures. The round graphic and the fingers displayed in a "V" shape have the same meaning no matter what the language.

The most well known symbol from the 1960s has become pop culture favorite that remains a favorite in the 21st century.

Have you seen Pinwheels for Peace? We had an event here locally and it was fun! There's a template for kids to print off their own pinwheel, decorate it with peace messages and then take it to a local event. Might be a good addition to this lens!! Great lens, btw.

Great Topic. History suggest "war" has strong element of economics. America's Civil War was an economic war more than anything else. Why ? Could It have been prevented. You Choose ! Let's focus also on making poor able to survive as possible now with knowledge and spirit of friendship among different faith in America and the world. thanks.

I own a restaurant and we fly a US flag with the stars in the shape of a peace symbol (also sold on this site). I just had a complaint from a man in our community saying he was a former military commander and he was offended by our flag ("It shows disrespect to the Amercian flag" & "You'd be hard pressed to find a military person who disagrees with this."). I told him it is our hope to spread a message of world-wide peace and that we feel one way to do that is to show our patriotism and wish for peace at the same time by flying this flag. Any opinions on this? I cannot believe this is offensive, but am trying to hear different perspectives. Thanks for any feedback! I'd also like to send him a letter with more thought-out response...any ideas?

The prayer flags are thrilling. I have long decorated trees with colorful scarves, in my own ways as spirit stirs me, as prayer for harmonious, dynamic, profound, dancing, re-creative peace. I also make prayer-tree or prayer-branch sculptures of fallen branches & bird-food. There are so many possibilities!
