Printable Pop Up Cards

Printable Pop Up Cards to Make

I have found a variety of printable pop up cards from around the internet for you to print and use to make a pop up card with that special surprise hiding inside. Some of these are free and for some, you will pay a small fee. The cards range in difficulty from very easy to quite intricate. Take a look to see which is your favorite.

You might also be interested in checking out some different printable interactive cards which spin, slide, and flip.

You will notice that several of the cards in the animal section are not actually printable. They give instructions for making easy pop up cards which make a good introduction, particularly if you have not made one of these cards before. These are excellent for the kids to make too.

Please note that the majority of the free pop up cards available here are for personal use only. But you will be able to sell cards made with printable templates bought from Craftsuprint (click on the pictures to get to the Craftsuprint website).

Buy the above printable pop up template.

Tips for Making a Pop Up Card which Truly Stands Out

  1. Use photo paper to print out your cards (unless it is a black and white picture). When I first started making printable greeting cards, I would print the pieces out on a matt card. This would ensure that any extra cut out bits would be sturdy and not flimsy (as it would be if I printed on paper). But then I discovered photo paper. This makes the colors really bright and vibrant, making any cards extra special. And if you choose a thick enough photo paper, you can still achieve the firmness of card, which is all important for those pop out elements.
  2. Use a sharp craft knife and metal (or metal-edged) ruler to cut any straight edges. You will be able to get much straighter cuts than if you used scissors.
  3. Use acid free tape or glue to attach your pieces. The recipients may like to keep these very special cards. I know I would!
  4. Be as accurate as possible with your folds to ensure your card does not get distorted.
  5. Feel free to add any special embellishments, such as ribbons, stickers, buttons, etc, to make your card truly one of a kind.

Some of the cards featured on this page are origamic architecture style. I discovered these clever pop up cards when I was a teenager. I had a book and proceeded to make many of these cards in miniature. They look very effective just cut out of plain white card. The pop up element relies on careful cutting and intricate folding, rather than fancy pictures and colors. With this sort of card, you need to be very accurate with your cutting and folding, otherwise it can look a little scrappy. Use a craft knife to cut out the fiddly bits and make sure you use a ruler to cut any straight lines.
