If you have a bit more time, there are numerous quality web sites where you can print your own designs or customized one-offs on demand - birthday cards, invitations, get well wishes, postcards, greetings for special occasions and even every day notes.

Design and Craft Your Own Greeting Cards

You can design and craft your own greeting cards using free templates, craft papers and cardstock embellished with photos, clip art and decorations straight from the sewing box, office supply cabinet or scrapbook bin.

If you're comfy using a computer and MS Word or other desktop publishing software, you can design elaborate pieces using digital scrapbook backgrounds, word art, graphics and add on embellishments. You decide on the size and style and choose your favorite paper, cardstock or vellum.

If you aren't a crafter or don't have computer resources, you can still design your own and have them printed by the pros. Online shops and services offer thousands of unique templates and one-of-a-kind designs ready for you to personalize. Upload your own photo or picture, add your own text, choose fonts and other style features then place an order to print one, two or a dozen or more of your custom design complete with envelopes.

How to Make Envelopes for Greeting Cards

DIY Printable Greeting Cards

Photographs make wonderful cards. Many printable cards contain fantastic pictures with clever verse or titles. If you find a free photo that would make a perfect card you can design your own greeting card and either print it at home or upload it to a service.

Online and instore printers can print 1 or a dozen photo cards that are your own design. You do need to be sure the photo is available for commercial printing if you upload a picture to make a card.

If you really want to make your own cards and print them yourself, it's easy to design a spiffy printable card. Use pre-folded note cards for the base, or print on any color card stock that you've cut down to the size you want.

Print the photo directly onto a blank card front, or print it separately and glue it to the card front. Add borders, ribbon, or any other decorative findings you have on hand to make your free and easy card truly one-of-a-kind.

Use Ready to Print Blank Cards

Printer-ready easy to use prefold cards with matching envelopes make DIY invitation and greeting card printing easy and fun.

All sorts of print and use templates and styles are available. Designs based on photographs, humorous cartoons, coloring and paper piecing models. Templates save you design time and frustration. All you need to do is pick and choose your style, size and graphics, then save and print.

The choices are many and all they cost you are a bit of craft time, plus the price of some materials and ink for your home printer.

Heavy Card Stock for Printing at Home

Card stock is one of my favorite basic supplies for making so many types of paper crafts including extra special greeting cards.

If you print on card stock you will need to position the images and text so you can keep everything aligned front and back, and you'll need to trim away the extra card stock after printing.

I make all of my own cards. One idea I have (and there is a squidoo lens about this one) is to recycle Christmas cards by papering over the fronts, or by using the paper to make embellishments for other cards I am decorating.
