Best Tools for Resizing Photos

Updated on May 31, 2018

Software to Resize Photos

Today's digital cameras produce huge file sizes. With this software you will be able to send your smaller images by email. It is also the perfect tool for webmasters or people wanting to publish images on the internet. Reduced file size enables faster loading, better management of the pictures and space saving - without loss of picture quality. Many of these products can also help you convert images between different formats.

From this list you should easily be able to find a tool that matches your needs - online service; versus local software; part of a larger editor or a stand-alone resizer; focused on individual images or batches and much much more.

Jpegmini - Top Service for Converting Photo Collections

JPEGmini
JPEGmini

JPEGmini may be the best online photo shrinker (though as you will see below, it has plenty of competition). JPEGmini automatically shrinks the size of JPEGs by up to five times while maintaining the original quality of the photos. In the photo above you can see the before and after - and you don't see any difference other than a much smaller file! Simply go to JPEGmini.com, upload a photo, and - voila! - it's shrunk. You can also sign up for the free service (just requires your email) and you can upload a whole album at once then share it via Picasa or Flickr. There's also a desktop app for Macs that can quickly resize individual shots or even entire folders simply by dragging and dropping. As you can see JPEGmini has many easy to use options!

WebResizer - Resize photos and images - Great Service for one-off conversions

webresizer
webresizer

Web Resizer is a free online image Resizer that helps you optimize photos for web or email. Easy to use. Amazing results! Webresizer can reduce image size, crop photos, sharpen, resize - change width and height, rotate, adjust contrast, convert photo to black and white, add a border.

Cropp.me - Super Easy Photo Copping

PhotoResizer - Online Service

Photoresizer
Photoresizer

PhotoResizer is one the simplest and most usable tool I've seen to handle quick image resizing and cropping. You upload a photo, resize and/or crop, and then output the file. Actually, you can save as PNG or JPG format and easily print or email.

ResizR - Resize Images in Firefox

Great Service for Firefox Addicts

ResizR is a nifty, free and very useful little helper. ResizR allows you to resize an image from your local computer or the web. It's claim to fame is a ResizR Extension for Firefox and I would only recommend this if you are a Firefox user and are interested in the extension.

Mypictr provides a free picture resizing service, which allows you to create a custom profile avatar for your favorite social network. You don't need to install any programs, plug-ins or any other software, just upload your picture, resize it online and download it from our server. Imagine the following situation, you are about to create a new profile at a new social network and the size of profile picture is limited to a custom width and height. You would probably search for a software which will allow you to adjust your picture to the right size. With mypictr you don't need to search for the software, all you need to do is to upload your large picture, pick a right size (or custom size) and download a smaller profile picture.

Photo Enhancement - Professional Affordable Worldwide Editing Service

Source

I love editing photos, but when you have the photos say from a wedding, a reunion or a graduation you might want a professional touch. Tucia can add a person into a family portrait or remove an unwanted stranger from your photo. They can digitally open up closed eyes or fix hair. They can also offer glamorize and digital cosmetic enhancement options - get a tan, clear acne or remove braces. Simple touch-ups such as digital camera mark or red eye removal and cropping are also available.

CutmyPic

Cut My Pic is divided into 3 simple steps that allow you to quickly upload a picture, crop it, add a drop shadow, and mail it to a friend or save. It's that easy! Let's a take a little closer look at the 3 steps required to cut your pic!

ShrinkPictures Tutorial

Shrinkpictures - Resize Images

Welcome to Shrink Pictures. This website was created out of frustration of users asking questions like How do I resize images? How do I make images smaller? and How do I shrink this picture for an avatar?. So, we created the Shrink Pictures tools that are no more difficult than posting in a Forum and now anyone can Resize Images and Digital Pictures.

To resize your images it is as simple as 1, 2, 3, 4, 5!

1. Browse your computer and select your image/photo to resize

2. Select the new size for your picture - use a preset or choose a custom size

3. Optionally, add an effect to your image

4. Select output image/picture quality Lower quality means a smaller file

5. Click "Resize" and wait for the processed images to be displayed

ImageOptimizer - Resize and Compress

Using Image Optimizer you can resize, compress and optimize your image files. Using the service is as easy as clicking of button! Optimized images are better! They are more suitable for web pages, email attachments, or even storage on your disk. This site is great if you only have a few photos. To do them in batch you have to download and pay for their software upgrade.

Pic Resize - Online Service

Pic Resize is a fantastic website that provides way more than resizing. You can resize it to make the file take up less disk space. But in addition to that you can crop the photo, add one of about a dozen special effects and save it as a JPG, GIF or PNG.

Automatically Resize Images - Dropresize

Point free system-tray application Dropresize at any folder on your desktop, and it monitors that folder and automatically resizes any image you drop into it.

If you do much photo sharing on the internet you know that most of the time you don't need to upload giant, full-resolution pics. So, rather than wasting time uploading big images, just drop the image into your special Dropresize folder and let it resize the image for you in the background to user-defined sizes.

Dropresize is a portable, freeware application, Windows only. Only jpeg images are supported as of now. The product is in early beta now so it is far from bug-free, but they have a great idea.

Resize My Photos Batch Resizes Photos Quickly - Desktop Software

Resize My Photos is a freeware application for resizing multiple JPEG-images. The interface is easy and intuitive to use and allows you to batch resize your photos just the way you like it. Resize My Photos even allows you to drag and drop files or folders from the Windows Explorer or through a right-click context menu. Unlike many similar software, Resize My Photos is a light weight program that runs fast and flawlessly without taking a lot of resources. Just download and run the setup file and you will be ready to resize your images in a few minutes! And best of all it's totally FREE TO USE without any nags, ads or time limits!

  • Resize multiple JPEG files at once (batch resizing)
  • Supports selecting folders or files
  • Resize images by limiting the longest edge (fit to a box), height or width
  • Add a prefix or suffix for output images
  • Manually set output directory or use the same directory as original files
  • Set image quality for resized images
  • Open images or folders by dragging and dropping them from Windows Explorer to Resize My Photos (or on a shortcut)
  • Open images or folders by right clicking on them in Windows Explorer context-menu
  • Asks user for confirmation before any files are overwritten
  • Easy to install and uninstall

RIOT - Radical Image Optimization Tool - Desktop Software

Saving images for web/email/other media with the best compression ratio and quality is a difficult task if you don't have the right tools - RIOT, RIOT - Radical Image Optimization Tool, is that tool.

Choosing the right format then choosing the right parameters are the key factors of smaller files.

Previewing the resulting image and the projected filesize will help the user choose the best settings. This kind of image optimization software is often called "Save for web".

"Private" Photos - Image Metadata

Why strip down an image file? There is the often told story of a news anchor who received a rather embarrassing lesson in the power of metadata. In short, a cropped head shot posted on her blog contained an embedded, full-pic thumbnail with the original photo that had a bit more showing than just her head and shoulders.

If you're not cropping your mug out of a nude composition, then the only other reason to use this is paranoia. That said, if you want to see the metadata for one of your photos just visit Camera Summary or Jpegsnoop to see what your photos have hidden in them.

The metadata contains all sorts of information like exposure time, aperture settings, camera used, and GPS coordinates and other stuff nobody would care about (unless you work for the CIA). JPEG & PNG Stripper removes every bit of metadata without altering the appearance of the image itself.

@spellen: Thanks for leaving a note. I was impressed with Photoresizer and added some notes above. Actually, I noted that two services I had previously suggested had gone offline so your not was a reminder to check more frequently!

Can you add our site as well? http://www.photoresizer.com. It's an online web tool, but the beauty is it works local so no need to upload photos to the web, they appear instantly. Safe and fast.

      Hey, there

This seems cool. As a Mac user, i wanna share a similar product called PhotoMagic, which is quite convenient for batch resizing images. Besides, it provides crop, flip, rotate etc.

If you are a Mac user and have to resize images frequently, you might as well go and have a look. By the way, it is compatible with Mac Snow Leopard.

wow, thanks for sharing. These are really useful. I would also like to share one with you guys. It is called PhotoMagic, which is pretty much the same as what listed, maybe even more powerful. But it is only for Mac users, If you are a Mac user and have the needs to resize images or photos, you might as well go and have a look.
